Outkast turns down Oprah OutKast Declines Appearance on Oprah Winfrey Show
By: Mark Lelinwalla July 18, 2006 Oprah Winfrey continues to feel backlash from the hip hop community. After Winfrey reportedly invited OutKast to her show, the influential rap group from Atlanta turned her down. According to Fox, Big Boi wanted to appear on the show, but his partner Andre 3000 didn’t. Winfrey’s battle against hip hop began following an Oct. 2005 taping of her show with the cast of the film Crash. Following the taping, Ludacris, who acted in Crash, felt like he was slighted by Winfrey. He even claimed the famous talk show host edited out his comments and kept her own in. Following Luda’s comments, fellow heavyweight rappers like 50 Cent and Ice Cube also chimed in about Winfrey’s supposed problem against hip hop and its artists. Despite the backlash, in May, Winfrey told veteran New York-based Power 105.1 radio station host Ed Lover that she had no ill will towards hip hop music, except for the kind that degrades women. At that time, Winfrey even revealed that she likes artists like Kanye West and Jay-Z and even has 50 Cent’s “In Da Club” on her iPod. Having OutKast on her show perhaps would have put ideas about Winfrey having problems with hip hop and its artists to rest, however, OutKast didn’t want to be involved. OutKast could have also used the appearance on Winfrey's show to promote their new movie Idlewild, which is slated for an Aug. 25 release and its soundtrack, which is due three days before on Aug. 22. While reports point toward the possibility of friction existing between Big Boi and Andre 3000, OutKast has not released a statement as of press time to explain declining Winfrey's invite. http://www.vibe.com/news/...frey_show/

I agree, I think the real story is just that Andre didn't want to do it (he isn't prmoting this new album or touring) so they ahd to turn it down.

He wants out I believe, they said last week, Big Boi will tour for the album by himself and featured guests. they have already shot 3 music videos for the album's singles, so Andre can do other things. here's what his doing next, which has a not so subtle hint about Outkast (from mtv.com): Andre 3000 is instead focusing on acting (he signed on for his next movie role but can't talk about it) and producing a cartoon series, "Class of 3000," which will debut on the Cartoon Network this fall. "It's about this entertainer who at the top of his career just totally, completely stops doing it," Andre said. "He moves back to his hometown to teach these five or six musically talented kids. Every show, we have a new song produced and performed by me and the kids, so stay tuned." . [Edited 7/20/06 1:16am]

If Andre doesn't want to do hip-hop anymore than why not retire altogether?

I think he might be a bit sick of "Outkast", His just prepping himself for his solo career, I hope he doesn't leave music all together, he already said he will 'never' sing Hey Ya again, a bit of the 'creep' syndrome going on there.

yesterday I heard someon say that Andre would rather go on Oprah as an actor than a rapper.
I don't think this is a diss to Oprah but Outkasts own issues. I also heard that the show wouldn't have aired until fall and since the album comes out next month, it wouldn't make sense to do Oprah.

They don't normally make the rounds on the talk show circuit anyway, do they?

Andre will probably be on Oprah one day but Big Boi wants to be on it NOW though. Andre's changed. He doesnt want to tour or do live performances, he doesnt wanna do nothing.
