Madonna on NBC PASADENA, CA (July 21, 2006) -- NBC will broadcast "Madonna: The Confessions Tour Live" - a two-hour special set to air in November 2006, the network announced Friday.
The special will be taped this summer at Wembley Stadium in London, UK during the pop icon’sworldwide sold-out 25-city "Confessions Tour." The special marks the first-ever broadcast network performance by the internationalsuperstar. "Madonna is one of the greatest artists of our time and never fails to generate excitement," said Kevin Reilly, NBC Entertainment President. "We think this is going to be a big event for television." The concert special will feature songs from Madonna’s recent multi-platinum Warner Bros. Records release "Confessions On A Dance Floor," which debuted at No. 1 in 29 countries and has sold overeight million copies around the globe. The broadcast will also include some of Madonna’s greatest hits from her legendary career. In the course of that career, thestar has racked up a staggering 35 No. 1 hits on Billboard’s Dance charts. The multi-Grammy winning artist, songwriter, producer, best-selling children’s book author, video visionary and cultural icon has sustained an unrivaled reputation for astonishing stage spectacles and has made musical history many times over, including international record sales of over 200 million albums. The special is produced by Blackdog Films. Madonna, Angela Becker and Guy Oseary, are executive producers; Jonas Auckerlund directs and Sara Martin produces.

Yep....right after CBS airs the Reinvention show....I don't like this because it will be badly edited, as ehuffnsd points out...All great songs I'd like to see and hear. | |

I guess she'll have to clean it up for that one show.  Actually, according to reviews she toned it way down at the show her dad/stepmom were at...little or no profanity and she stuck to the original lyrics in I Love NY.

Why can't this be on HBO or sumptin? I wanna see the WHOLE show, not an edited down, commercial interrupted version. AND, as noted above, NBC will likely back out as CBS did. dammit. | |

Yes, I bet Live To Tell will be cut! I imagine that NBC won't come right out and tell us what will be on the speical and have everyone beleive that "Live To Tell" will be included, getting all Christians in a tizzy, only to be wusses and admit defeat and not make it part of the speical....or they'll include it for the controversy and ratings. What is "Erotica" like live? I heard she combines it with a new song and is dancing around in that purple and white body suit that they show her performing in when they show clips and mention the tour....is it like an upbeat pop number now? | |

I was thinking the same but NBC has a recent history of airing these kinds of specials (although they are usually concerts made for specfically for TV....not edited to fit). Remember, they aired that Cher concerts and had tremendous success with it (it really helped Cher's album sales too....her hits album released to concide with the tour was in the Top ten for months and I'm sure it sold at least a million copies). If it happens, it will be great and I'm sure if there is a DVD release, Madonna will include the cut songs (Cher's special appearently only cut two songs but had them as extras on the DVD). | |

Here is an excerpt of a quick interview from Tv Guide with NBC president Reilly himself. They asked Reilly whether "Live to Tell" will make the cut.
Reilly: "That will probably be in the show," he revealed. "She felt strongly about it." TG: Was it a deal-breaker? Reilly: "I wouldn’t put it in those terms, but she’s really been very cooperative about selecting what would be in and what would be out, and she felt like that was a cornerstone of the show. We viewed it and, although Madonna is known for being provocative, we didn’t see it as being ultimately inappropriate." One of the funniest things I've ever heard her say has to be....and even in context, this makes little sense, "Fuck that, midget. I'm going to go suck on Taylor Hicks!" (the context was that she calls this regular Stern caller pretending to be Katherine McPhee of AI...she tells her he knows it isn't Katherine and that it's her...for some reason this line came out at the end). | |
