My shockers are bolded.

Shocked that they placed so high: Eagles, Led Zepplin, Billy Joel, Garth Brooks, Nelly, Pink Floyd

Shocked that they made the list at all: Keith Sweat, EWF, Natalie Cole and LL Cool J

Shocked that they place higher: Janet Jackson

Some other shockers:

Madonna, Bruce Springsteen and Mariah outselling Michael Jackson.

Those figures are for the US only. His figures worldwide are definitely more than both of those.

All of those artists (Nelly in particular) outselling Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye, who isn't even on the list(!), is a crime against humanity. Even if I chalk it up to their relative lack of new albums since the mid-80s, that's still ridiculous.

This list doesn't make sense if u take into consideration that:

1/ Motown never affiliated to the RIAA, hence most of Motown artists, who are among the best selling ones, are not even mentionned.

2/ You have to pay to receive a certification, which gives an innacurate view between labels that pays fee to promote its artist as a high seller and labels that don't give a damn.

3/ Many artists are over represented by realising many double, triple albums or box sets which are counted by the RIAA by the number of records included in one set and not by the set sold alone ( Elvis, Beatles,...)

eek I don't understand, why is Prince at 39.0? confused eek
God doesn't just tells me how much he "LOVE's" me, God shows me how much he "LOVE's" me. Both telling and showing "LOVE" means to "LOVE". They go hand in hand. You can't have one with out the other. Something is spoken, then followed by an action. That is

Janet is at about 28 million, as certifications are far behind actual sales.

the funny thing is that people always think of the USA being the place where all the sales come from. BON JOVI who hail from New Jersey obviously sold 33 million here, but over 75 million worldwide for a total near 120 million, the same could be said of my fave band a-ha who have sold about 1 million in the states but overall have sold close to 40 million worldwide to date. So in reality the USA is a big piece but not nearly as big as we think it is, especially nowadays.

"We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

There are def some misses on this list, most notably STYX which had 3 straight albums that sold 3 million each, and between thier other 15+ albums they def sold a few million. And also Rick Springfield also charted Four straight mutliplatnum albums from 1981-85 then back to back gold and a platnum selling greatest hits, plus all his other records. Worldwide they have him at 30+ million and last i heard USA was about 15-17 million. Those are 2 that i can see off the bat that are missing.

"We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

Aren't these based on sales during the soundscan era?
