Which Bowie album should I buy next?

Okaaay, I've been obsessing over the first disc of Best of Bowie just lately, really loving some of the funkier ones like Golden Years and Fame.

I have Heathen and absolutely love it. I have Reality and think it only has about four decent songs on it. I have Earthling and only like Little Wonder.

Anyone recommend some essential albums from his first up to Station To Station (as that covers the first disc on Best of Bowie)?

Hunky Dory
Ziggy Stardust
Aladdin Sane
Station To Station

Beyond 1976, Low, Heroes and Scary Monsters are top notch efforts.

if you like the soul-infused stuff, get DIAMOND DOGS, YOUNG AMERICANS, STATION TO STATION and if you like live albums, get DAVID LIVE.

those should tide you over. and if you can score the RYKO cd reissue of YOUNG AMERICANS, you'll be in for some great bonus outtakes.

oh, and stick with EARTHLING - it will grow on you. nod

I was gonna suggest Earthling too I've been listening to this loads lately, Little Wonder is a real party track.

Also try and get hold of the Live and Well cd although I think you can only get that if you're a Bowienetter or do they sell it in his online store?
Some people are like Slinkies...

They're good for nothing but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

Mine came through pretty quick, but unfortunately the ltd print that they sent out has a crease on the corner (you know when the card bunches up), you can barely see it but things like that really niggle at me. boxed

i was underwhelmed with the disc in general, but i'm glad i have it for collector-y geeky reasons.

If you like Golden Years, you'll love Stay, so get Station to Station. And Diamond Dogs too! That was when he first really hinted at his Funk/Soul side.

I always recommend Aladdin Sane for anyone interested in getting into Bowie's 70's stuff.... amazing record.
