Just listened to this album for the first time in about 2 years. I remember being a bit worried when I found out that Daniel Lanois was producing this album (I just knew he'd fuck up their sound). But surprisingly, this album has aged well. My favorite tracks are 'Naked Eye', 'Under Your Skin' and 'Electric'. I know a lot of LJ fans like 'In Search of Manny' as the groups best release but I think I'd cast a vote for 'Fever'.

As an aside, does anyone have any info on what the groups' members are doing now? I know they broke up after 'Electric Honey'.

"Why Do I Lie" should have been a huge, huge, HUGE hit. Every time I hear it, I think they're covering some old '70s classic, but I think it's an original. The melody just sticks with you.

This was a hard nut for me to crack.

I could not for the life of me gel with this at all. Naked Eye being an exception because that song is exceptionally superb. But it really all made sense to me when I was in a horrible horrible mood and now I adore this album. It seemed very unfocused, and non-sensical to me for a long while and it just kinda clicked and what once felt vibeless to me is pulsing with a funk that snuck up and kicked my ass.

Natural Ingredients will always be my favorite I just hate that they broke up. I wish they would do another album, even if it's only Kate, Jill and Gabrielle.

Is that the one w/ "Mood Swing"? I love the shit outta that song

Fever was kind of important to me at the time - the first 6 songs were anthems for a while there!

It's not like they were the best players or anything but the loops, melodies, and production really made it fun to listen to. Interesting that a lot of it was done in their living room, if I recall. Proof that you don't need a million bucks to make a cool record

In Search of Manny was my fav. Natural Ingredients was good stuff, though.

Nope, they weren't. But as you pointed out, they made good music. That's why it's so frustrating to hear folks dismiss them for that reason. No they weren't virtuosos, but shit, neither were the Velvet Underground. Neither were the Sex Pistols. It didn't stop either group from making important music.

Actually, that to me is one of the biggest draws Jill Cunniff and Gabrielle obviously are no Mariah Careys but they have a handle on phrasing and lots of times when their vocal harmonies sound out of whack, that adds an element of funk to the thikness of their vibe. I see why people wouldn't like this album but it's almost like a mystery and once you've solved it it's amazing. Now I'm gonna jones over an album I have no idea where my copy is!
