Al B. Sure was the shit back in the day and even though Kanye and so many others hate on him now he was good. I know I bought his first and second CD .

Yeah but the take on al b. was he could not sing live. I know several
people who went to see him perform live said he sound horrible. I remember
seeing him on a bet special back in the day where he performed and he
sounded horrible then. He performed on that show back then as well as
the late great roger troutman and zapp and some 5 star knockoff group
called royalty.

He and Christopher Williams were very good to look at but unless they were going to strip and get nekkid, I had no use for their music.

He's a good looking guy. Sounded great on his studio recordings, but I agree he sounded awful live. I still pull out In Effect Mode once in a while. Private Times and The Whole 9 was kind of weird, it had some quirky new jack swingish production by Devante that I didn't really care for, it just sounded kinda flaky. His third album (title is on the tip of my tongue) wasn't bad either, the maxi single for Right Now even had a really nice acoustic version.

Kyle West was a genius on Al's debut album and the whole "Night side" and "Day side" idea was pretty clever. That was one of the best debuts ever in R&B.
