hey New Wave Fans

Hey all. After tons of work getting the music together - and my brother's expertise with the technical aspect - our net radio station is up: www.bluespaceradio.com [we are still working on it, so it may be up and down part of the day today.] If it's down, try:

http://bloodyflux.com/Mus...fault.aspx

The website is a work in progress, but it's coming along nicely I think. I'm pretty happy with the music mix. Check it out if you get a chance! There is also a forum there for commenting on the playlist, making suggestions, discussions about new wave music, whatever.

Also, I have a question for folks - would you consider 1999-era Prince as being new wave?

Here is the blurb I posted on the sight explaining the format:

What is “New Wave” exactly? There are almost as many definitions as there are fans. Is it just the quirky melodic synth-pop that came out from 1981 through 1984, or thereabouts? Ask any new wave fan if a particular song is new wave, and you’ll get a variety of answers. When did new wave end, or has it ever ended? There are no boundaries to new wave…. It’s all fuzzy.

The music concept behind Bluespace is to take new wave as the core, but then push beyond those fuzzy boundaries forward, backwards, side by side, and in every direction possible. The “classic” era of new wave is very much the foundation of the playlist, but we also include material that was influential in leading up to new wave, and also the direct descendents of the genre up to this very day. There is a current wave of bands that make no secret of their allegiance to 80’s era new wave that we will feature heavily: Bloc Party, The Killers, Editors, Franz Ferdinand, The Faint, etc. In addition, in this modern age of Indie labels and countless bands recording and releasing albums, there are lesser-known artists that clearly carry the thread of the “new wave” spirit, and we will focus on many of them as well. You might hear a song by some band – Radiohead for instance – and think, is that new wave? Well, no, perhaps it’s not strictly new wave, but… imagine if “Amnesiac” had been released 20 years earlier, with the technology of the time – in which genre would it fit? Exactly. New wave holds a large umbrella.

We’ll have all the big new wave singles that everybody knows and loves. We’ll have obscure bands that only the most dedicated 80’s-phile will be familiar with. We’ll have album tracks and b-sides, and 12” remixes – many of which are from vinyl because they’ve never been issued on CD. We’ll mix the new and fresh with the old and the classic, and throw in some surprised. We’ll explore all of the sub-genre’s of the vast umbrella known as “new wave”, and tie together 30 years of innovative music that has NO BOUNDARIES. And we’ll throw in some surprises from time to time as well. New wave doesn’t have an easy definition, and neither does the format of Bluespace Radio. But one thing that will remain constant with both: always interesting, never boring, and expanding the limits.

Wow thanks. I love eighties new wave. I listened to it alot growing up and I really liked english groups from that era and thought they all sounded so cool. I was just thinking about that today....how I was so in love with that sound...

..oh and yes I'd probably think that 1999 was new wave...or at least I think Prince was really accepted as "cool" by new wavers at the time cuz it seemed like alot of people who liked these new wave bands loved 1999 and saw Prince for the genius that he is.

I have this whole CD collection by TimeLife I think, called Modern Rock...there is sooooo many New Wave classics that I had not heard in years, it cost well over a hundred dollars but it was so worth it!

Very cool. I think I'll be adding some Prince to the playlist. Some tracks on 1999 are VERY new wave, like "something in the water" for example.

I think i've seen that TimeLife set, alot of good stuff on it! That's the kind of stuff that will be on the net radio, but with alot of more modern stuff as well thats in the same spirit.
