Jody Watley - Jody Watley (1987) - "I said the bitch is bad"

After seeing the "Still A Thrill" appreciation thread a week or so ago, I was just listening to this again last night, and it's definitely one of the best pop albums of the late 80's. It's sad that it's forgotten now. Absolutely irresistible hooks, all uptempo ("When I saw there wasn't one slow song on the album, I said the bitch is bad!" - vainandy), great vocals. They really need to remaster this one. I want the video mix of "Still A Thrill" on CD, damn it.

Classics:

Looking For A New Love
Still A Thrill
Love Injection
Some Kind Of Lover
Don't You Want Me
Most Of All - great melody; this sounds like it could have been on Madonna's True Blue LP

Great Tracks:

Do It To The Beat
Learn To Say No - this is a duet with George Michael, their voices are great together

I know this album gets the blood going in people aged 30-37.

How come the public can remember Bobby's Don't Be Cruel but not this album?

Seriously, one of my favorite albums. As much as I love the singles from Larger Than Life (and Friends is as good as anything on this album), I think that one is only a good album. I listen to it regularly. It's still got such a fresh pop/funk sound.

And, yes, it does need a remaster. The video version of Don't You Want Me is so much better than the album version. Love that keyboard solo!

lol...I think. confuse

I'm gonna port over a portion of my post from this thread:

Still a Thrill - this one falls into that category of best non-Prince Prince songs

Don't You Want Me - my pick for the best single from her first solo album

Most of All - total Madonna song, thanks to Patrick Leonard, but great vid

Looking for a New Love - "Now you're like the rest, unworthy of my best...hasta la vista, baby!"

Some Kind of Lover - a video full of 80s cliches, but a fantastic song!

Hey, While we're on the subject of Jody Watley again, Does anyone remember that song that Jermaine Stewart wrote about her? The lyrics went something like this. "Everybody Wants A Piece Of Jody, Everybody Wants A Taste Of The Cake" Although it didn't become a hit, It wasn't too bad. But it sounds funny coming from Jermaine cause I always thought he had a little sugar in him.
