Britney Spears' vocals

Are they slightly better than we always give them credit for?

http://www.youtube.com/wa...s%20vocals

This is a montage on youtube somebody made of her "greatest vocal performances". After watching it, I wasn't convinced that she's a fantastic singer, by any means, but that her signature paper-thin, squeaky, sex-kitten voice probably really is a put-on that's used to sell records.

i can't see the video at the moment, but i've wondered if it was a put-on as well. especially whenever they show her performances when she was younger. (star search, MMC, etc..) her voice is probably strnger and fuller than it i now. lol there was another performance a few years back, can't remember if it was from her 2nd or 3rd album, but it was a really good prformance. (vocally)

shrug so i wouldn't doubt it.

lol As I said, she's no truly great shakes, but what I heard live in those performances are at least somewhat better (especially the young-Britney ones) than what I've always heard on her studio recordings.

Britney was a better vocalist as a child.

But back in the days, she was never classically trained (like Christina).

When Britney recorded her 1st album, she still had a very high-sounding voice. I think in order 2 capitalize on that sound and milk it some more, her handlers and producers synthesize her voice so much that, rather than sounding like a young girl, she sounds like a robot. It's not a range she's comfortable in and you can hear it when she tries 2 re-create that sound live. Listen 2 the chorus of "Toxic"-you almost can hear her slip into her natural voice when she sings "I'm addicted to you"... Britney has a naturally low singing register, U can hear it from older clips. But pre-teen sex kitten sells.

Not that I think if she sang in her natural voice she'd b anything special. I agree with most on here in that she simply doesn't sing very well.

I agree. Britney was a much better singer back in the 80's when she was Michael Jackson.
