BET Cancels 'Uncut' Television Program

"BET Uncut," a music video program from Black Entertainment Television, has been canceled after a six year run on the entertainment television network.
The show was discontinued by BET executives, according to sources, and the last episode aired last Friday (July 8) in a finale hosted by rapper/producer Jermaine Dupri.

Infamous for scantily-clad women and sexual themes, "BET Uncut" featured videos from well-known Hip-Hop and R&B artists that were intended for mature
audiences only.

Because of its titillating content, the show was rated TV-MA and had been deemed unsuitable for children under the age of 17.

The show made headlines in 2004 from various African-American women's groups for the portrayal of women when Nelly's "Tip Drill" became a standout video. In the video, Nelly, The St. Lunatics and David Banner indulge in sexual folly with strippers and at the climatic point, Nelly swipes a credit card between a woman's buttocks.

The backlash eventually forced the Nelly to cancel a bone marrow drive on Spelman College, a historically Black women's college in Atlanta.

Fans of "BET Uncut" have already started an online petition to have the show put back on the air.

Good! I watched it once out of curiousity and was repulsed.

Well the main issue with this show, besides the obvious, is the fact that it is a "mature rated" show running on a Commercial Network, even though its cable, its still commercial, I mean u cant curse on shows like VH1, MTV, BET, because they have advertisers.

To further this point I was watching an episode of Sanford and Son on TV LAND (another commercial network) and Redd Foxx stands up in Court and says "Look at these Niggers in here" , but they totally cut that part out, its only on the DVD and of course when it first aired in 1975, its pretty scary that there was more Freedom in those days then now, that we havent grown enough to accept that. However im not saying Uncut shouldnt be cancelled.

Awesome. Companies usually try to spruce up when trying to attract buyers. Oh, please, let Viacom sell BET...

Oh no! I never was able to stay up late enough to watch this, and now its cancelled! (Just kidding about it being cancelled.) I guess I'll just have to go back to downloading Snoop Dogg's hardcore porn videos to get my BET Uncut fix.

Actually, I saw the VH1 special about video hoes, and it showed some strippers who were in these Uncut videos, and it was rather sad watching their explantions for their participation in those videos. These girls were as podunk country as hell, and they said that they hoped that it would lead them to possible Hollywood stardom. Come to think of it, the rappers who were making these Uncut videos were mostly second rate dirty South MC's who had to create their own labels because the majors didn't sign them.

As for being on a commercial network, I'm sure having this show on at 3 am EST didn't exactly have advertisers banging down BET's door, and the content of this show would have most advertisers running away in the first place. Not that I am offended by this content, but who would want to see some ad for carpet freshener or laundry detergent after watching some video hoe dancing on a pole and shaking her mostly bare ass up against some dude's crotch for ten minutes?

Which just goes to show my point. Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if this were a move to generate a little more revenue for BET, since they probably will fill that time with infomericals anyway. I remember back before 1984, a lot of TV stations would shut down for the night after 1:00 am during the weeknights and 2:00 to 3:00 am on weekends. Thanks to the informercial, these TV stations suddenly were able to broadcast 24 hours a day due to the extra revenue they brought in.
