Fleetwood Mac - Tusk

I have dusted off this album after so many here at the Org think its so great. I love Fleetwood Mac's 1975 album and, of course, Rumours, but this was just too weird for me.
How did I dismiss this back in the day? I always liked Think About Me, Sara, and the Over and Over, but maybe I didn't have the patience back then. But all I know now is this thing is BRILIIANT! Talk about being ahead of their time. I am hearing new sounds every time I listen. Anyone who dismissed mid-70's Fleetwood Mac as MOR fluff need to sit down and listen. Beautiful stuff.

It's great work, no doubt. All three writers offered some wonderful material, especially Stevie. And props must go to Lindsey Buckingham for not wanting to make Rumours II. Still, the album effectively killed the band as sales were poor in comparison to what Rumours had achieved and Lindsey took a lot of shit from the others because of that. His contributions (songs and production) to the follow up Mirage were at best average. You could tell his heart was no longer in it and the whole band suffered because of that. Serves them right for wanting great sales instead of great music.

TUSK....

Yes Yes Yes... I love the song TUSK...

When the wifey and I go out to our neighborhood bar for a drinky,
I usually play Tusk 5-6-7 times... I love it.
if I'm stuck in some groovy wet dream, don't pinch me, I'm diggin' the scene.

I have mostly weird feelings for this album. I can't listen to it straight through; I usually either program out all the Lindsey tunes or all the other tunes (most likely the latter). I love the Ledge & Save Me a Place.

I can't think of an equivalent album where the contrast between the songwriting was so dramatic.

It is a weird album that definitely takes some getting used to.It's not nearly as consistent as 'Fleetwood Mac' (1975) or 'Rumours' (1977),but I appreciate the different styles and the songwriting.

I thought the same thing about Tusk for a long time. But I am finally getting it. Now I am thinking its impossible to compare this to Rumours or the 75 album (which are both, of course, classics). Tusk grew on me much like Lovesexy did when that one first came out...it tool awhile, but when I got it...its become one of my favorite records of all time. Tusk IS weird but a classic in its own right.

Recently I "re-discovered" TUSK.
I can't get enough of the song.
I'm going to have to buy the album.

Hence the White Album comparisons. But I listened to the White Album since childhood and got Tusk recently. Maybe it's because I've lived with it a shorter time, but Tusk was hard to absorb because it sounded too disjointed (something people probably feel about the White Album).

Great songs, but almost like completely different bands, not just different singers/writers.

TUSK is such an amazing piece of work....

'Over & Over' and 'Think About Me' to me are Christine McVee's greatest songs (along with 'Songbird')....'Save Me A Place' moves me.. 'Sara' is perfection...I snatched up the reissue (along with RUMOURS and FLEETWOOD MAC) that were released couple years ago and there are great alternate versions of many of tracks....check it out!

I forgot about those reissues, Ive been meaning to get them. I'm a huge Tusk fan. I think it was a cool move, like the "White Album" or "Sign o the Times"

I find myself pulling this one out more than Rumours or the first Lindsey one because I never played tusk to death. I dont think I can hear "Don't Stop" ever again without cringing, Tusk is still cool to me and alot of it is great but not hits.
