The John Mayer Trio... ... A success or a failure?
I cannot reconcile the 'Rona Keating/Maroon 5' nonsense of 'Your body is a wonderland' with the inspirational 'Hendrix Experience' playing of the JMTrio. I've just got the Try! Live album... Marvellous. Any thoughts?

Don't mind sos, he's just feeling a bit cheeky! ;^)
I think the Try! album is fantastic! Lots of great tunes on there and it's a side of Mayer that we hadn't really seen yet. I think it's also encouraging that they even let him make the record considering its not aimed at 16 year old girls.

This may be off topic but I love Herbie Hancock's song, "Stitched Up" with John Mayer on it.

I agree, this is a damn good song! I like when they break it down and say "girls like that don't sleep alone" I also like the piano part. Good groove!

I'm sure the it took the average John Mayer fan some time to get used to his exploring the bluesy rock side of him. I think he does pretty well with it, and at the same time schooling fans about his influences. I admire how he didn't allow fear of alienating fans or not having another mega radio hit right off the bat deter him. Try is really good. I haven't played it in awhile, but thanks for the reminder. He has a new song on his myspace page. The title doesn't come to mind, but definitely look him up and take a listen. "Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!

So, a thumbs up then? My mate, upon seeing me purchase this album, pointed and laughed. I'd seen, I thinkk, "Who Did You Think I Was" on Juice TV but after much piss-taking was beginning to wonder whether I'd got the right guy... THEN I saw that Body is a Wodnerland thing and I was seriously questioning my memory. If it wasn't this John Mayer bloke, then who was it? Fortunately, I WAS right. I'm really enjoying this concert album, very entertaining.

He's very fortunate to have that luxury in his contract. I give him credit for having the stones to exercise it. You're referring to Waiting On The World To Change. The rhythm guitar gives the track has a nice Curtis Mayfield type vibe. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. JM represents, to me, one of the cooler points of the music industry today. He does his thing very well. And, he can burn that fretboard.

I actually quite enjoy Heavier Things.. his sophmore album.. some of its on the poppy tip, but its polished off very nicely.. requires a few listens. I don't think a lot of his fans appreciated it for whats its worth...
