Sufjan Stevens... who digs this guy

I'm just kindof gettin into him.. I like Illinois, and just got the Avalanche album.. its tough to absorb all at once, but seems to have some beautiful stuff on it.

Loved him for awhile now. Illinois is my favorite so far, "Casamir Pulaski Day" is probably my favorite single song of the last 5 years.

i love those albums, although i have to admit that i haven't
fully absorbed "The Avalanche" yet.

his Hark. Songs For Christmas 5 EP thingie is cool too. and
there's just so incredibly much stuff out there to explore.
he's got like a gazillion songs already.

Me, fav song would be John Wayne Gacy Jr. what a voice!
Illinois did it for many people and it's a great album but you should also check out Michigan! And A Sun Came, for the more electronic/rock fans. And there are some gems on 'Outtakes & Rarities' but I don't know if it's available in stores.

beware of "enjoy your rabbit" and "a sun came". most of them are noise, especially "enjoy your rabbit".

Have you seen him live yet? He's great, but there's so much nerdy hotness on stage, I felt like one of the girls in that Beatles footage. Was almost hard to concentrate on the music.

nod

and theres a sameness about his music that shouldnt allow him to release two albums a year (well, it feels that way)...

i think he would suit himself best to follow the sade, stealy dan or tracy chapman mold of only releasing an album every so often.

yeah, he's definitely got a "sound" but i don't really think his last three records sound the same. seven swans is very much its own thing, though it uses the same instruments, and michigan is similar to illinois but illinois is more crafted and complex. the other two (a sun came and enjoy your rabbit) sound nothing like anything else he's done.

with his last three records (the latest not included), its kind of like dirty mind, controversy, and 1999...similar but different enough to avoid becoming boring or repetitive.

oh yeah, saw him in chicago at the metro last time around (and i could kick myself for missing his show at schubas!). right up front and center, singing and dancing...so much fun. and yeah, totally, lots of nerdy hotness on stage.
