there were some outtakes from outside that circulate as bootlegs...it's mainly really chaotic, collagey sounding stuff. i listened to what i managed to snag once, and promptly shelved it.

And to answer your question, I love the album. I could do without all the wtf? interludes and I've burned a copy without them that I enjoy much more. I think it's absolutely one of his most frightening, uncompromising and interesting albums. It's a bit of a Diamond Dogs for the 90's.

Though I must admit that I quite like the segues. They're dividing the album into bits of 3 to 4 songs, pretty interesting...

I love the album. I pretty much ignore the storyline, other than to look at the pretty pictures in the liner notes now and then. I rarely listen to the album all the way through, or else I make it so it skips the segues. I'm not a big segue fan, no matter who the artist is. But the music is top notch!

If you don't count Buddah of Suburbia (which I tend to do), it was Bowie returning to form.

This was also one of his riskiest endeavors...wasn't this his first stadium-sized tour following the retirement of his 'hits?'. It was the only time I recall ever seeing so many people hit the exits after the opening act (NIN)...

It's a pretty great album but I have nearly all of the Bowie ninties and on albums (starting with "Black Tie..") and I still think "Heathen" is his best..."1. Outside" might be second. Awesome music, very dark and kind of complicated. BTW, anybody have the new Blender? I just got it and they review all of his later albums. Not sure if I agree with the critiques, though.
