Convenient though

i bought the 2004 version (same thing, minus the cd-writer function)

the positives:

1. i can play vinyl again.
2. looks attractive in my living room
3. i only paid $38.99 for mine (got a really good deal at work; it started out at $199.99 )


the negatives:

1. the sound is horrible. turn it up to level number "40" and it still sounds very very low.

2. the built in speakers are horrible, and even with external speakers you can plug in, the sound still leaves a lot to be desired.

3. the eq pre-sets all sound the same, honestly.


overall:

if you're an audiophile like me who likes to actually turn the music up on occasion and feel the beat--you're gonna be disappointed. this definitely is not worth $400.00! go to circuit city (they usually sell them, especially around the holidays) and check out one of the other brands (or even an earlier model). most of them should be $150 and under, which is more in line of what this unit is worth

that's what makes it different in the whole picture. And that's why it's priced like that I believe. You could probably bypass it through a receiver to not use the speakers. But if you say it isnt worth it then I probably will look for a different model and brand. Thanks for the insight
