All of a sudden I remember that they used Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of These) as an instrumental interlude just before SexyBack.

Here's how he described at a French press conference:

"The best way I can describe that song is say David Bowie and David Byrne decided to do a cover of James Brown's 'Sex Machine,' ".

That got me interested...

thumbs up!

Sounds like a fun night!

CarrieMpls and I saw him at the Quest (formerly Glam Slam) in Mpls during his Justified tour. He was doing small club shows after his arena show. We went for the kitsch value and then were rather surprised by how engaging he was on-stage.

I'm excited for his new album nod

Did you see both shows? Betteer in a club than an arena?

We only went to the club show. I couldn't bring myself to deal with Christina at the arena...

Funny you should mention that song, because that song has been in my head all day long.
Don't know why?
Maybe it's because I was supposed to call/mail you so we could see each other again.
I will check my agenda tonight and contact you tomorrow.

The music market is one with movers and shakers; the artist is not alone in making/creating an album/hit.

People always love to indicate people like Christina Aquilera and Justin Timberlake have no saying about what songs to sing, but that these decisions are made by their record labels.

This might be true up to a certain level and why not? Not writing all of his own songs sure never held Michael Jackson back from having global hits. It's all about being number one, right?

But I just like to see people blend pop-smoothness with hit material without selling out. People like George Michael did it before and every self-respecting artist will. It is part of a process.

I can't wait how Justin Timberlake will dirty up his prissy clean image, beside de-virginising Britney. His live act was releaxed, not too much choreography, emphasis on MUSIC. Of course, his audience being what it is, they gave the loudest roar when he and his back up singers did a smallish dance routine.

But he will still be a cute boy for a while, I suppose. His relationship will keep him from coming across as a womaniser. I say, let him. If the rest of the album is half as exciting as this new track, than I am a fan for sure.

And did ANYONE already make the yes comparison from Lovesexy to SexyBack?

hehehe, actually, he used to be that buff, serious. He did an entire post-Britney shoot where he ran around half naked too and that's his body, serious.

Dunno if he still works out like that though...

The NYTimes mentioned Prince in relation to JT/Sexyback in an article last week:

Plenty of male pop stars through the ages have flaunted their own appeal. But it’s been nearly two decades since Prince posed naked on the cover of “Lovesexy” (perhaps that coinage helped inspire “SexyBack”), and the taboo against male preening is stronger than ever. For example, “Sexy Love,” a hit by the R&B singer Ne-Yo, conforms to the current status quo: unlike Mr. Timberlake, Ne-Yo goes out of his way to let listeners know he’s describing a woman (“I’m so addicted to how she’s the sweetest drug”), not himself.

Mr. Timberlake isn’t the new Prince, not by a long shot. Unlike Prince, Mr. Timberlake hasn’t made a career of acting as his own object of desire. And there’s no particular reason to think that on his forthcoming album, “FutureSex/LoveSounds,” due Sept. 12, he will continue the fight on behalf of “sexy” boys everywhere. (Though it seems his assault on the lowly space bar WillNotEnd/AnytimeSoon.)

I love how they pointed out Prince has pretty much been in love with himself since the beginning. So true... giggle

Here's the link for the article: http://www.nytimes.com/20...ref=slogin
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.
