Never Knew Love Like This Before or Borderline

Not such an odd comparison if you ask me. I always thought these two sounded similar (especially in the opening moments), and then when I bought a Stephanie Mills collection several years back I realized why; both Never Knew Love Like This Before and Borderline were written and produced by Reggie Lucas. James Mtume co-wrote and co-produced the Stephanie Mills tune.

Which do you prefer? Here's some video to aid your decision-making. smile

I didn't notice how they had the same kind of intro before.

That Stephanie Mills' song is one of the best ever!!!! I mean "Borderline" is great but I prefer "Never Knew Love Like This Before".

I like them both but I'm going to pick Never Knew Love Like This.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

You actually picked one of the few Madonna songs I kinda like.

But the use of more real instruments (opposed to the synths) and Stephanie's voice make this an easy choice for me.

Stephanie is more believable.
I don't trust Madonna.

Borderline. One of the only times that Madonna showed some sort of innocence. Love it.

"Borderline" is one of my favorites from Madonna, but I have to give it up to Stephanie.

Now, she'd probably slice (said with fake British accent) me. wink
(Or have one of her "people" do it.)

Oh wow, well done for picking out the similarities. I never realised it before.

Gotta say I prefer Stephanie. Borderline would be up there if the album version didn't have those hideous extra lyrics. So glad they cut them out for the single/video.

I like both songs. But based on subject matter, Stephanie Mills wins! biggrin

EDIT: TBF, Madonna had the better video.

nod I can get past the minor differences in instrumentation but Stephanie's voice is superior (to almost all singers, not just Madonna).

Both records are good, but yeah...there's no comparison with the singing.
