Just a bit of chart triva....


This weeks #1 debut by Johnny Cash at about 89,000 copies is the LOWEST sales amount for a #1 debut. Breaking the mark set by Destiny's Child's " #1's " of 113,000.

The thing is, its still it shipping to record chain thing, its not over the counter sales. Its based on what stores order and reorder, which is why u see big debuts and then pretty big falls depending on the artist.

The reason the numbers are so low are, one its a Johnny Cash record and why would a store order tons and tons of it when stores are geared to sell to teenagers. Two in the last year about 1000 stores have closed including 70% of the Musicland/Sam Goody chain, so you have to remember that is coming out of the orders. Everyone is getting there stuff Digital, Itunes and all that stuff, that is why the days of Music stores and Cds are about to be over, its sad.

I like the variety on that Top 10.

I dont doubt your expertise in the field. But I have always known it as a point of sale systen , which is why Billboard switched to the system in 1991 , because it is more accurate. (not to say there is plenty of room for fraud, but thats another subject)
