FuNkeNsteiN said: blackguitaristz said: Yeah, this is a great album. BUT, my fave album has to be "Fire". But they were definately at their peak with the release of "Skin Tight" (1974), "Fire" (1974), "Honey" (1975) and the seriously underrated album "Contradiction" (1976). Yea, Fire is the best album of the Ohio Players' mid-seventies masterpiece trinity. The title track has got to be one of the best funk songs ever. Period. Yep. And what's so GLORIOUS about this cut is that it has bonafide rock to it. It's just as much of a rock song as it is funk, which is what I dig about it. Same goes for "What The Hell", which is one of my ALL TIME FAVE cuts by them. I ran a thread on here about "What The Hell" and how much P bit off of that song on "Computer Blue". SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

I've been trying to find those albums for quite some time, and it's almost IMPOSSIBLE here. Damn shame. Even ebay is no good when it comes to this band.

So, who do y'all think was baddest on the keys, Walter "Junie" Morrison (Westbound era), Or Billy Beck (Mercury era)? ... " I've got six things on my mind --you're no longer one of them." - Paddy McAloon, Prefab Sprout

I can't compare the 2 of them, they're both bad on them keys, but I think of Junie as a musical wizard as far as arranging & creativity.I'm crazy about Billy's playing too. It's perfect! /peace Manki

But I always wonder what would've happened if Junie had stayed with the Players...but if he had, I guess there might not have been a "One Nation Under A Groove" with Funkadelic.... ... when i was younger i think i was more in awe of the album covers before the music. then my dad would play them on the record player and i fell for them. funny he'd let us look at those covers but be so strict with us seeing boobies and stuff

I really want to get me some Ohio Players albums, but I swear it's near impossible to get hold of them now. I've tried looking around and they're either 1. very pricey, or 2. take an age to be delivered. Have they gone out of print or something?
I've been trying to get Sly and the Family's "Life" for yonks now, and have the same problem with that. I ordered it from some Amazon dealer and, a week or so afterwards, they refunded and said they didn't have it. Travesty that these classics are so hard to get. Conversely, I can pick up Nelly fukkin Furtado's latest CD (not that I EVER would) by just walking into a local HMV with my eyes blindfolded and one leg sawn in half. Shame.
