I originally posted about this event this past April after a trip to Vegas for NAB.
While there, I was able to visit with members of the technical team responsible for running the show.

However, last night was the premiere performance of the Cirque de Soleil production of...



...The Beatles - LOVE at The Mirage.

This is the only use of their material sanctioned by all 4 Beatle entities...



...Sir George Martin and his son Giles serve as Musical Directors for the show.

Using the master tapes at Abbey Road Studios, Sir George and Giles have created a unique soundscape for LOVE. "I think we will achieve a real sense of drama with the music, the audience will feel as though they are actually in the theatre with the band. People are going to be knocked out by what they are hearing!" said Giles Martin.

Dominic Champagne directed and wrote the original concept for the show which captures the essence of love that John, Paul, George and Ringo inspired during their astonishing adventure together. LOVE evokes the exuberant and irreverent spirit of The Beatles. "When we embarked on this extraordinary adventure in 2002," said Gilles

Ste-Croix, Show Concept Creator and Director of Creation, "we set out to create a timeless, three-dimensional evocation of The Beatles music. Drawn from the poetry of the lyrics, we developed a preliminary concept that explored the content of the songs in a series of scenes inhabited by real and imaginary people." The international cast of 60 channels a raw, youthful energy underscored by aerial performance, extreme sports and urban, freestyle dance.

LOVE will be presented in a custom-built theatre at The Mirage featuring 360 seating and advanced high definition video projections with 100-foot digital, moving images. The panoramic surround sound system will envelop the audience who will experience The Beatles music like never before...

Apple Corps Ltd. is planning to release the album through EMI Music later this year.

Oh... I forgot to add. The most surprising thing about all this to me, isn't seeing Team Beatles get all touchy-feely with Yoko... It's the fact that Siegfried & Roy were on the guest-list. I mean, knowing Cirque De Soleil and Mc.Cartney's stance on using animals for entertainment, it just seems odd to me.

Ravi was George's goodfriend and taught him how to play the sitar (I think this is tru not 100% positive tho). Ravi played with George on the Concert for Bangladesh. Finally, Norah Jones is Ravi's daughter. Don't know anything about his other daughter.

george was ravi's student, and his music was a big influence on george and the beatles as they entered their psychadelic era. i don't know if i'd call him a 'sixth beatle', but he was a big influence on them.

there's also a great performance and interview with george and ravi on the dick cavett "rock icons" DVD set. it really puts ravi's involvement into perspective...i think he was kind of the larry to george's prince.
