Aw damn. I thought I was gonna be able to offer my neo soulistic expertise but this is an obvious attempt at promoting an artist and not the genre.

it's a term that Raphael Saadiq absoultely hates...i know some people around here like to crown him the "king of neosoul" but i listened to an interview he had with a radio personality and he explained why he hates it so much. he feels like the media is trying to make the soul music out today to be a new type of soul, which is what the word "neo" stands for...he said how can you try to make soul new?? Soul has been around for decades, he feels its a big slap in the face to coin a "neosoul" term when soul never has died.

Jaguar Wright went so far as to even title her last album "Divorcing Neo to Marry Soul" as if that would help her record sales, so when I saw her at a spot in L.A., very tongue-in-cheekly I asked her "How'd the divorce go? Though i understand your point of view that neo soul is a harmless somewhat meaningless term. But their are alot of artist who hate it, because they believe it to be in reality is a term that doesn't exist...
Every Genre evolves and is new in their own way, their is no Neo-Pop, Neo-Rock, Neo Grunge...
Neo Soul is just an evolved form of Soul, Nothing different to deserve a subcategory status... Of course this is my logic...

The hatred toward the term is as stupid as the term...
Because its nothing more than a label that recording companies use to help promote the artist. Make them look more appealing.

For some reason Soul gets stuck on the taste-buds like some Old fish...
Neo soul gives old fish some tobasco sauce...

but its all meaningless in the long run

Yeah, the thing is, if those neo soul artists want to be called simply R&B then that means they're CDs go into the same section as tenny-bopper groups like Jagged Edge, 112, Keyshia Cole and the like and that's not where their fan base is at.
