Lewis Taylor says goodbye!

Well one of my favorite artists of the past ten years has decided to call it quits, for anyone who knows his music you will know it's a sad loss to the music industry, we will sure miss his melodies and multi faceted skills.

and here's a video http://www.youtube.com/wa...s%20taylor

That was the first place I looked for info. I see nothing about his 'retirement', or am I just blind?
Or in denial? cool

oh man that's really unfortunate. Although it could be a stunt, people thought prince was gonna retire in 1995. From what I know, didn't Lewis used to record under the name Sheriff Jack, maybe he's going to invent a new identity

Nothing as yet, I think everyone is just waiting for the shows in October expecting them to be the last, I know it's still some time away but I'll definitely be posting live show pics and reviews here.

I'm actually considering flying over there to catch those last shows- Oct. 27th is my birthday, so that'd be Kool...

But yeah, I'm not sure why he's quitting now, just when he was starting to get the notoriety he deserved...I know he has mentioned offhand that'd he'd be happy just playing in other people's bands, and I noticed that he showed up on a recent episode of Top o' the Pops, playing bass behind Gnarls Barkley, and before that, he was playing second guitar with the reunited Edgar Broughton Band's European tour (under his first name, Andrew Taylor [Lewis is the middle name])...

..but I guess it bothers me that he'd be content just playing in the background, when he could easily just go down in his basement and come up with something that would kick everybody's ass up and down the street!

Hopefully, he just needs a rest and wants to re-juice.He has too much good stuff going on to just be a session musician. It may be good for him to do that a while, though. It would take all the responsibility off his shoulders and he could simply have fun interacting with other artists. It would be cool if Prince did this ,too.

eek What a present!

There's a good 2 part mini-documentary right below the clip referenced in the original post above.
Jason Kay of Jamiroquai comes off a bit twitchy but the Lewis (Andy) Taylor sections are nice.

Bewdy

How bizarre that I made a post regarding him being underated early on last week. and here we are with him giving up.

What a sad state of affairs. i regularily send emails asking my local radio station asking to play him, and their default answer is, we don't know he is, no kidding!! no suprise then that no one else does either....

there used to be a day when you could count on your radio DJ actually knowing more about music than their listeners... sadly not anymore.

I reckon if Smooth FM played 'Damn' just once on the radio, they be so overwelhmed with calls that his career would be off like a shot. Everyone I've played that track to, has said it has become one of the favourites of all time.

A sad day indeed.

U? Man, shit,...Paligap hipped me to this cat 2 years ago, bless his heart, and I was dedicated to seeing him live. He was set to play out here in L.A and I bought my ticket. Then he fucked around and got sick and cancelled. That was back in March. So, I feel u.
