it's sad but true. jimi hendrix is still held as the one and only "acceptable" black rock artist. prince also has been "accepted" as a great rock guitarist. however for the life of me i cannot understand why when more that one black rock musician ascends the stage with others to form a rock band there is little or no acceptance. they are looked at as oddites or mutant hybrids. is there some sort of dormant socialogical fear regarding the acceptance of more than one (rock artist) of color getting together to perform this type of music?
for example: (quote) "cult of personality"... Living Colour was a very well-rounded band, something which was seldom seen in rock bands of the 1980s. Diversity among songs showcases the band's song-writing talents, while vocalist Corey Glover is the perfect match for every style they offer. Vernon Reid may be one of the most under-rated guitarists of all time, as he can easily switch gears from producing Jimi Hendrix-style sounds to rapid-fire metal solos a la Kerry King of Slayer and then move to B.B. King-style blues. what happened? what is happening? [Edited 7/3/06 5:23am] i love you for who you are, not the one u feel u need to be.

That sounds great. Hopefully it will be popular enough to come on video everywhere. | |
