who stood out for you overall as a 90's Band??I liked them all.I've been Listening to Mint Condition alot this week.Thoughts?

Having seen Tony Toni Tone live way back at the end of the 80's...I was really diggin how well they perform live 2gether as a unit. Oakland folks were a bit harsh 2 there own, but I thought they where pretty talented.

It was common place 2 run into those guys alot around the city or at the club back then. D.Wiggins was cool 2 talk music 2.

I saw TTT open for BNH at the Roxy in LA back in the early 90's. Whata friggin show. Loved them both. They even had an elephant outside the show to hype it. I miss the good old Delicious Vinyl.

Brand New Heavies are absolutely one of my all time faves! Brother Sister is one of the most perfect albums I've ever heard. Saida Garrett should not have been picked as the replacement for N'Dea. N'Dea left some pretty impossible shoes to fill. I heard a rumor that she was getting back with the group again. I hope this is true. The band brought out the best in her voice and she brought out the best in them. I almost cried when she left. Thank God she had a solo album to get me through the last part of the 90s.

Also the Heavies, Jamiroquai, The James Taylor Quartet. Quite a lot of acid jazz bands, dont know all their names. And of course, the purple one. But I was tested with all the rapping on his stuff.

Would have to be Tony Toni Tone for me. I just saw Raphael Saadiq live and he sang some of those old Tony Toni Tone clasics. I was blown away.

Great thread again. I was about to do a thread on the Tonies. I think Tony Toni Tone was an incredible group. I hate they broke up. They had a special chemistry. SONS OF SOUL and especially HOUSE OF MUSIC are R&B classics. To me, these two albums are must haves to put in your collection. They were something else. They ran 90's hip-hop beats and styles into a head on collison with 70's funk and sometimes 60's soul music and it manifested into brillant music.

Sons of Soul is one of my favourite albums ever. Lay Your Head On My Pillow is just beautiful.

Brother Sister is also a classic. N'Dea Davenport has one of the smoothest and most soulful voices. Their later stuff with doobrie-flip (names gone - dueted with MJ on I Just Can't Stop Loving You, wrote Man In The Mirror) on vocals, seemed very weak by comparison. When they released the cover of You've Got A Friend I thought "What happened to the funk?" Very bland and middle of the road IMHO.

sons of of soul is good... but TTT are a little to much new jack swing for my taste. I prefer the BNH, maybe because I am a retro mofo and I dig the old sound... maybe its because I lived in london when they got big and I saw them play all the time... but nothing can reach the old shit... sorry...

I LOVE MINT CONDITION. ONE OF THE FEW BANDS IN THE 90's THAT CONCENTRATED ON PLAYING THEIR INSTRUMENTS. ME AND A BUDDY WAS RIDING YESTERDAY JAMMING TO 2 OF THEIR CD's;
