India.Arie - Testimony vol 1: Life and Relationship i'm just listening to this for the second time so i don't really have an oppinion on it yet. all i can say is that it sounds cool. clever, thought provoking and soul searching lyrics as we're used to get them from this talented young lady. have any of you got your copy yet? and what do you think about it? perhaps there has already been a thread on this and i just missed it. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I'm buying it tonight. All weekend from seeing her live on Friday to VH1 Soul airing the record release party, I've heard the entire cd probably three times. I don't want to comment track by track, but as a whole I love what I've heard so far. It's supposed to be her most personal yet, and it really cuts to the core of dealing with heartache, moving on, and remaining hopeful about self and love. She might surprise some peeps this time around. She will be performing tonight on the BET awards.
Early standouts: I Choose, Private Party, There's Hope, Good Morning, the remake of The Heart of the Matter, and of course I am Not My Hair "Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!

I have it, I just cant listen to it right now. I heard her album review party on VH-1 Soul over the weekend. I learned that she has a dog named Shadookie. She is so down to earth and EXTREMELY talented. How can one not pick up her new disc. I think the title is ridiculous though.

I still don't really understand why I Am Not My Hair went through so many manifestations. I liked the original version with Pink on it. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

After only one listen, I really like this album. India seems incapable of making a bad one. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

From billboard.com, India already has new next album ready to go, I hear it will drop before Christmas.
India.Arie Already Working On New Album June 30, 2006, 3:30 PM ET Gail Mitchell, L.A. India.Arie's third Universal Motown album, "Testimony: Vol. 1, Life & Relationship," which arrived earlier this week, finds the artist covering Don Henley's "The Heart of the Matter," trading licks with Bonnie Raitt and even playing trumpet as she explores the aftermath of a painful breakup. But Arie tells Billboard.com the new album's companion, "Testimony: Vol. 2, Love & Politics," is already written and partially recorded. One track being eyed for the set is "Vagina's Monologues," which Arie has already performed live. "I've reserved that song for that album, but I don't know if it will be on there," she tells Billboard. "People will assume 'Vol. 2' is about the war and American politics. A little of that is in there." "But as in 'Vagina's,' I'm also talking about the way women view their bodies and how that affects our health," she continues. "I talk about AIDS in Africa; the hip-hop generation that doesn't prioritize its money. It's about the politics of human nature and humanity. It's not about me being preachy but doing music that touches and speaks to people." Arie says she looks forward to branching out into other genres, including trying her hand at country music. "Now that I have better producer chops, a country album is something I want to do one day. I don't know who's going to put it out. But when I do, I don't think people will call it 'country music.' They'll probably call it 'neo-soul,'" she says with a laugh, referencing the term so often used to describe her music. Arie will be on tour throughout the summer and will next perform tomorrow (July 1) West Palm Beach, Fla.

I'm buying Testimony Vol.1 sometime next week. I loved her debut album, Acoustic Soul, but I didn't buy Voyage To India for some reason. Was Voyage To India great? Check me out and add me on:

I dunno. It's been a while since I've listened to both. But I did not care for Voyage as much. Acoustic Soul was my disc as soon as it hit the player.

Voyage had to grow on me a bit. Initially two or three songs stood out, but over time I grew to appreciate it as a whole. I loved the interludes, or whatever it's called that's sort of the less than a minute in between tracks. haha! Anyway on that release, I felt it alot.
Don't sleep on the latest one. I know many are afraid of a message cd, but compared to all that's in our collection, and being forced on us now, the messages that India is trying to convey aren't gonna do ya no harm. There might be something that you need to hear, whether you want to or not. "Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!

to me, this CD isnt "preachy" or overly "heavy." I think the disc is honest and true. I think the emotions explored on this new record is things that people can understand and feel. I Love the CD!
I love her take on Don Henley's "Heart of the Matter." In the midst of the Beyonce's and Nelly Furtado's of the music scene, it is SO refreshing to hear an artist of substance that isnt showing her ASS-ets to sell her music. GO INDIA!

any album with a "volume 1" followed by a subtitle, with no other volume included with it or on the schedule, is trying way too hard to be pretentious.
