After reading GangstaFams` Tori Amos thread, i had to find out what all the fuss was about, and found a few videos on youtube.
I discovered a live version of a song called "Jackie`s strength", and it was so BEAUTIFUL
...So i wondered if any of you devoted Amos fans could recommend me some Tori Amos albums,
and tell me what you think of the "Original bootlegs" set.

I'm an ass, aren't I.

she's gone down several paths, musically speaking, so its hard to tell you where to start.

the original bootlegs set is a great representation of her live work but i wouldn't suggest it until you've got an appreciation of her recorded work. each record of hers has a distinct theme and if you go straight to the live stuff you miss out on these themes...they're half the fun!

anyway, my two personal favorites are boys for pele and the beekeeper. my suggestion -- and its nothing but preference, so whatever, ya know -- is to start with boys for pele and go backwards to under the pink and then her debut, little earthquakes. then i'd go to from the choirgirl hotel and work my way up, chronologically -- choirgirl, to venus and back, strange little girls, scarlet's walk, the beekeeper, and finally, the originial bootlegs.

if you do it that way you begin at her peak and see how she got there. then you see how she took crazy turns from her peak and see how she got to where she is now. that's just me, though.

I think you have to listen to her songs a few times in order to appreciate them. Even when i heard "Winter", i just thought, well, i guess it`s an okay song.... but after listening to it again, it kinda grew on me, and now i love it

I`ve heard some good things about "To venus and back", and it seems like many fans prefer her live recordings, but it makes sense like you said, to check out the studio albums first (but i`ll definitely end up getting the bootlegs, i LOVE expensive box sets )

Well ~ if it were me, I'd not be able to resist a namesake so I would have to start there. After that, listen to the Tori guru's ~ Sassy and Gangsta and they'll lead you on the right path. Actually, there are many very passionate Tori fans here who can help. Did you see the recent thread about orgers compilations?

I say just get the albums in chronological order and follow Tori's journey through her career the same way she did. Her first album 'Little Earthquakes' is still her biggest album and those songs get the loudest response live so it makes sense to me to get that one first.

And the bootleg box set is incredible, but you will appreciate it more if you already know the songs.

is it her biggest? i've never thought of it as her biggest. she was way more popular with boys for pele and choirgirl. after all, she couldn't sell out the keswick theatre with little earthuakes (seats about 1000) but she sold out 15,000 seat arenas on the plugged tour.

personally, i don't think you can go wrong with any tori cd!

Sales-wise it's her biggest album. Both her first two albums are the only ones to be certified double platinum. A lot of people purchased those albums years after they were released which is why her audience was so small initially, but grew into the force that it was (and is) later.
