Where The Hell Have I Been Van Hunt is...! The Shit....I know this is not new to most on this board but I just picked up On The Jungle Floor and was absolutely floored! I went back to Walmart and picked up his self titled debut and was floored again! His influences are evident (Prince, Mayfield, Stone) but yet he finds a way of making it all sound fresh. I don't know how much influence Randy Jackson has on him but this brotha should be all over the airwaves. I'm diggin' both of these cd's and absolutely love "Character" from On The Jungle Floor. Prince had better watch out because there is a new dog in town and his name is Van Hunt! [Edited 7/1/06 13:37pm]

I just asked a coworker about him a few days ago and when he said he dug him I went out and got the new CD for $9.99 at Target. I'm lovin' it too.
I hear Prince and Lenny influences all over it! Next I gotta get his first one.

You know I was JUST like you w/ Van I'm still not awed by "Dust" to this day, though it sounded pretty good live... The song that turned it around for me was "Seconds of Pleasure" But I didn't even dig into the first album after that, I went straight to "Jungle Floor" & was really impressed (after the 2nd or 3rd spin) with the whole album - there's not one track I skip which almost never happens for me. Anyway, I think "What Can I Say" & "Down Here In Hell With You" from the first album (along w/ "Seconds of Pleasure") are divine But you gotta give him another shot, he's so worth it. . he's one of those overrated underrated cats.
i like some of his songs, but his vocals are a bit bland. i have boths albums, but usually turn it off when it comes on my mp3 player... . [Edited 7/2/06 19:56pm]

[Edited 7/2/06 19:56pm] On "Jungle Floor" I initially had a problem w/ his vocals - he sounded off key to me more often than I wanted him to. Somehow I've made peace with it, his overall vibe & the essence of each song now overrides any nitpicking I did before...
