List of my newly acquired CDs & LPs

This thread is dedicated to Mr. Cinister wink
On to the point:
I was recently on a week long vacation to Rhodes and managed to find a decent record store and of course made some acquisitions. I also received four CDs from CDON.com and one CD from my local record store. So here are the albums I purchased:

Slave - Stone Jam (Been waiting for this album for two months or so. Definitely worth the wait. Brilliant album.)

The Ohio Players - Summertime (A compilation from Charly Records. Pretty much contains the same stuff as the 2004 compilation Trespassin'. Not as solid as their mid-seventies albums.)

Kool & The Gang - Something Special (Got the remastered from the Original Funk LP Series. Not their best stuff, but enjoyable still. Get Down On It is pretty damn funky music)

The O'Jays - Ship Ahoy (What can I say? DavidEye, you were right. This album is absolutely brilliant.)

James Brown - At Studio 54 (A live recording from the Godfather Of Soul. Recorded at Studio 54 on March 26th 1980)

James Brown - Live At The Apollo ('63) (A classic. Nuff said.)

Earth, Wind & Fire - Electric Universe (To be honest, I'd never even heard of this album before I bought it. Allmusic.com calls it the weakest EWF album ever. I haven't had the time to listen to it yet, so I can't offer you my own opinion.)

Earth, Wind & Fire - All'N'All (Brilliant.)

Earth, Wind & Fire - Spirit (Brilliant pt.2)

Bootsy Collins - Play With Bootsy (I've had this album on my computer for ages. Finally decided to actually get it on CD.)

Ashford & Simpson - The Gospel According To Ashford & Simpson: Count Your Blessings (Apart from the dreadful title, this album is very enjoyable.)

Wendy & Lisa - Are You My Baby (Accidently stumbled upon this CD. Never heard any of the songs on it and I haven't had the time to listen to it. I'll get back to you on this later on.)

And finally...

Prince - Ultimate Prince (Thank you Rhodes.)

moving on to the LPs...

Rick James - Throwin' Down
Rick James - The Flag
(Found both of these albums while I was browsing through some old LPs the Rhodes-based record store was selling off at very cheap prices. They cost me one and a half euro each and even thought The Flag might not be Rick James' best work, it was still a bargain at such a low price and since it's out of print, a collectable. Also, The Flag is a hundred times better than Wonderful

It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

biggrin All 'N All and Spirit are on my to-buy list, as are Open Our Eyes, That's The Way Of The World, Gratitude, and I Am. I'm big-time ready for some EWF, baby!

Nice. I like that you said a little bit about each one. I acquired 50+ things in San Fransisco and I never did a thread.

That's The Way Of The World is a great album. The title track is absolutely amazing.

Well, if I had bought +50 albums, then I wouldn't have bothered to make a thread about them either wink. So, you still diggin' Bootsy's stuff, or have you already moved on to some other artist?

Well my focus switched this week because I was assigned to make a mixtape for 13 other people that would give them a good idea of what I like, so I wasn't discovering anything new, I was examining my influences instead.

Released in late 1983,this album always gets a bad rap,but I don't think it's as bad as people make it out to be.It's not one of their best albums, but there are at least four good songs here: "Magnetic","Touch","We're Living In Our Own Time" and the superb ballad "Could It Be Right",which should have been a single. On this album,EW&F totally abandon their "old sound",getting rid of the horns and replacing them with synths. Thus, the album has a cold, mechanical sound, like most of the music from that era.I think that if another band had recorded this album (say,Human League or The Talking Heads),it would have been better received.People never like it when EW&F venture too far away from their classic sound.

I absolutely love the title track and the song "Sizzling Hot". That album is great from start to finish.
