Johnny Depp to play MICHAEL HUTCHENCE in biopic!!! (UPDATE: Johnny Depp Not Involved!)

It has been confirmed that Johnny Depp will star as Michael Hutchence in a biopic about his life. It has been reported that Johnny Depp wants former girlfriend Kate Moss to star as Hutchence's lover Paula Yates. Word is that Johnny is more than happy to revive an on-screen romance for the film. The movie is reportedly titled Slide Away (a reference to the duet that Bono had with Michael on his solo album) and to be directed by Nick Egan, a long-time friend of Hutchence and the other INXS band members. According to the website www.TheHollywoodNews.com.

Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/w..._Hutchence

And More details found here...

For a few years, INXS was arguably the 2nd biggest band in the world (U2 was really rolling at the time). The suicide of frontman Michael Hutchence was a true tragedy for the music world (even though it's nice having a Canadian as the lead singer now).

There is a project in the works to do a movie on the life of Hutchence, and Johnny Depp's name is being thrown around as the top of the list candidate for the role. The good folks over at JoBlo give us this:

Producers are further looking to round out the cast with an ambitious list of names that include Eric Bana, Sienna Miller, Naomi Watts, Eva Green, Patsy Kensit, Hayden Christensen, Stephen Rea, Joss Ackland, Rachel Griffiths, and Julie Walters. The film, which has a working title of SLIDE AWAY (references an INXS-U2 duet) is under director Nick Egan, who directed a lot of INXS's more popular videos, and contrary to the rumor that has recently surfaced, Hutchence's father is not upset about the film and is cooperating with the production through Hutchence's Trust.

K I know that Johnny wanted to be a rockstar when he first moved to CA. Does anyone know if he can sing or not?

Cause if he can, he could be singing OSCAR!

I imagine he can, seeing as these days, even if you suck, you can be "made" into good, or at least work with good vocal coaches.

But I seriously hope they use the INXS' and Michael's real music and not have him singing over it.

Talk about a way to ruin the movie if the music isn't the same... rolleyes

There is only one Michael Hutchence. And seeing as the rumored director will be the dude who did most of the big hit the INXS videos, I imagine the real music would be used. I wouldn't mind hearing Johnny sing perhaps a version for the soundtrack, or the ending credits, but not the film itself....

How will they handle the way his life ended ( suppossedly it was auto erotic asphyxiation ) , it has to play honestly? With some make up and air brushing he'll ( Johnny ) look young enough to resemble Michael. Will they also acknowledge that Paula died as well?

UPDATE:

Depp denies he'll play Hutchence in film
Wednesday Jun 28 14:55 AEST

Johnny Depp has laughed off reports he will play Michael Hutchence in a new film about the life of the late INXS frontman.

Depp said he was never approached about the role and did not think he was "glam" enough to portray his good friend, who was found dead in a Sydney hotel room in 1997.

"It's not true," Depp told reporters in Los Angeles while promoting his new film, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.

The actor first heard about the Hutchence film, Slide Away, when a friend sent him a copy of a media report declaring he had agreed to play the Australian singer.

Reports also said Depp's former girlfriend, supermodel Kate Moss, would play Hutchence's girlfriend, Paula Yates.

"Somebody sent that to me and I read it and thought 'Wow, that's kind of interesting'," Depp said, laughing about the media story.

"No-one ever approached me about it.

"I don't think I'd be the guy to play Michael.

"I knew him pretty well.

"He was pretty broad, Michael. He was kind of a glam guy. He was like a god, like a shaman, so I don't think I'd be the guy."

Depp, 43, might not think he is suitable to play Hutchence, but he enjoyed reprising his role as the woozy, eccentric sea dog Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.

The $US200 million ($A273.6 million) action packed film, set for release in Australian cinemas next month, is a sequel to the 2003 blockbuster, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.

Depp based Captain Sparrow on another rocker friend, Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards, and was rewarded with an Oscar nomination in 2003 for the performance.

Depp never told Richards he was the inspiration for Captain Sparrow until the movie came out and admitted to being "scared" of what the veteran rocker thought.

"But his reaction was terrific and always has been," Depp said.

Depp and Pirates of the Caribbean producer Jerry Bruckheimer also confirmed Richards would star in the third of the Pirates of the Caribbean films, set for release in 2007.

Richards will play Captain Sparrow's father.
