Lewis Taylor - Massively Underated I was just wondering if any of you fellow orgers were aware of an exceptional british R&B artist called Lewis taylor. I was reading a rant on another thread about the poor state of R&B, and I think it is strange, that when someone as excellent as this guy comes along, gets huge critical acclaim, but then doesn't attain commercial success. i first heard about him about 7/8 years ago
If you haven't heard of him, I strongly suggest you check him out, two albums I know of both self named are really quite awesome. He has a modern day mavin gaye voice, and just the best fuse of rock, soul and jazz. It would be great to get this guy the success he deserves. Anyone else know his work?

paligap put me on to LT. His music is simply delightful. It just costs an arm and a leg to cop it. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

Yes very underrated indeed. Unfortunately for all of us he has decided to leave the music business. I hope he'll be happier. It's almost as if he's given us all he can @ up to this point. There's so many great albums he's made and people have yet to discover. Release Yourself

I've always like this cat but there is something wierd about him. It's like 1/3 of his songs are sung out of key. Does he have a hearing problem or does he do this on purpose?

We were just talking about Lewis earlier this week--see this thread: http://www.prince.org/msg/8/193268 There aren't many "newer" artists that have the talent to stand with the all- time greats----IMO, Lewis is definitely one of them! He's got tracks in his catalog that I think Prince, Brian Wilson, Sly, Shuggie Otis, Todd Rundgren, or Marvin Gaye would have been proud to have come up with.... I love his approach, on guitar, bass, Keys, or his multi-layered vocals...and it's usually all done in his basement... among Musicians, his fans include veterans and newcomers from all over the spectrum, Jazz, Rock, Pop, Funk, Hip Hop... Just a few admirers and supporters: D'Angelo, Elton John, Chaka Khan, Daryl Hall, Timbaland, Pharrell, Brian Ferry, Paul Weller, Leon Ware, Don Was, Questlove, The Late Aaliyah, Q-Tip, Eric Roberson, D-Influence,,etc.... It seems he's trying to leave the Biz now...but for the uninitiated, Check him out while ya got the chance!! btw, here's some rare tracks, b-sides and other examples (they used to be available on his fansite, Lewistaylormusic.com): http://www.yousendit.com/...49589C68A6 http://www.yousendit.com/...F9587F5896 http://www.yousendit.com/...670974783E http://www.yousendit.com/...D960C0E516 http://www.yousendit.com/...C51386F607 http://www.yousendit.com/...0E377AA38B http://www.yousendit.com/...86623A23AB http://www.yousendit.com/...DB2B7A4834 http://www.yousendit.com/...DC3A83913B http://www.yousendit.com/...246899B903 http://www.yousendit.com/...8435E75DBD http://www.yousendit.com/...D43B14AEBF ... Lewis is the man. pali and my brother black guitaristz hipped me to him. He's an amazing cat. Prince and Me'shell said they were gonna retire too and they're still here. Lewis probably needs to refuel.

Here's another one, interesting that he's closely following Aretha's version, down to Donny Hathaway's electric piano lines....
