nod I love the song, and I love him. I was just listening to this album the other day:

Odd, odd album. At any rate, I had no idea he was touring with The Cars. What happened to Ric Ocasek?

Ric is still on good terms with the other members. He just didn't want to tour this time around. He recently released a solo CD and wants to focus on that,so the other guys asked Todd to join the tour.Their opening act is Blondie.

Though he really didn't play all the instruments on the backing track he is using, as the presenters are informing the audience. In fact it's one of the very few tracks on the Something/Anything? -album that is performed with a band.

He looks nervous though - I've never seen footage of his early performances and it's quite obvious that he lacks a lot of charisma required for a TV-performance. Of course, by that point he was also getting really into drugs.

Very cool! Love that song.

Are those butterfly wings on his eyes?

Sometimes, when an artist struggles to communicate his art, that adds to the charm of it.

I don't know. He just doesn't look to me like he's comfortable wearing that glam outfit of his. On the liner notes to his re-release series from the late 90s they're making it seem like he had this big "fuck you" -attitude going on with wearing that gear on TV, but to me this performance certainly doesn't exactly transmit that "fuck you" -attitude very well. He just comes off as incredibly shy, almost to a crippling degree. His vocals are fine, though.

was he really? oh my goodness, i met him in switzerland when my old dude played as a sideman for him at montreaux. he was so lovely and shy. i had no idea about any of his backstory with drugs. i like his stuff so much but never knew anything of what his career was like in the "olden days". he is definitely cool peeps, though. very warm individual, and still sounds the same as on the records..

The story behind it is very funny. It could even be comical except that the performance is really good. That's why it works.

On closer inspection, looks more like bird feathers. Nice image. A more natural version of the Confessions palette.

(Just wanted to add to the "somebody stole something from Madonna...even though someone else did it first" trend)

It's The New Cars....

Todd Rundgren - guitar (solo, Utopia)
Kasim Sulton - bass (Utopia)
Prarie Prince - drums (The Tubes)
Elliot Easton - guitar (original member)
Greg Hawkes - keys (original member)

...Ric Ocasek decided he wasn't interested in a reformation.

I guess the band has dropped off the tour with Blondie temporarily due to Elliot breaking his clavicle when he fell out of a bunk on the tour bus when it swerved to avoid hitting another vehicle.
