funkpill you rule, my son! You finally found it! I remember when this video world premiered on "New York Hot Tracks". My family and I rolled with laughter with Rick tryin' to get his "acting" on. Shelia E said in a 1985 interview that "Rick James is a dog and he stole our shit with this video". But I know Rick said he had the "Spice Of Life" movie idea since 1982.

I remember that Black Beat article with Sheila E.! She said: "Rick James is doggin' us! Those ruffles were ours! And his videos look just like Purple Rain!"

Terrible! I'd never seen that before. Jere Fields plays his girlfriend at the beginning. She had a mean curl in Friday the 13th Pt V. Wait, Miguel Núñez was in the video, too. He played her boyfriend in that same movie. [Edited 6/28/06 8:17am]

That was EASILY Rick's WORST song EVER!
Now we see how wack Rick can be when he's NOT on drugs! Living to die and I'll die to live again - 360 degrees - comprehend

Rick James and the Stone City Band love double entendres. Let's see if you can get his two meanings in Mary Jane! http://www.youtube.com/wa...VLs6Fy_3qg

I sure as hell remember this video and thinking the EXACT same thing. The ruffled shirt. The whole look of the video. It just seemed like such a pathetic copy. Anyway, you REMEMBER New York Hot Tracks??? Cool!! Carlos Dejesus... Some people tell me I've got great legs...

so what was the moral of the video? How one can redeem themselves from stumbling on to stage pissed?
Rick is still drunk on stage, right? he scats pretty good for a drunk man, though. .

I bought that album when i was a freshman in college. I thought it was a good album but the first single Can't Stop which he dedicated to his then good buddy eddie murphy was his worst single ever. I liked spend the night, moonchild(mary j.blige or should i say p.shitty sampled for her song love is all we need as well as anything p.shitty ever touched),and sha la la la.The album was ironically released right after prince's around the world in a day. Don't laugh at my funk

The album that followed it in 1986, "The Flag", was the worst. Rick got a little better with the album "Wonderful" but he still wasn't the same as before. This seems to be the era when Rick and Prince swapped places. Rick picked up Prince's synths and Prince picked up Rick's horns. Andy is a four letter word.

I can't remember but I think Rick's came out about a minute before Prince's that year.....or maybe it was the single. I just remember being majorly disappointed with both of them that year. Sweet and sexy, R u experienced and a tight ballad called slow and easy. I just saw that video for glow. Man that was the shit back then. I never would have known vivica fox was in that video or miguel nunez.Vivica fox was also in Michael Js little brother randy jackson's band randy and the gypsy's video for love you honey in the early 90's while she first grabbed my attention on the black soap generations. Vivica was hot as hell then. She has fallen off ever since her escapade with fifty cent. Don't laugh at my funk

I thought that his garden of love lp was his worst. That was my opinion for years also since there were so many ballads on it. Over the years, after going back and listening to it, I was able to really get into some of the ballads such as "Don't Give Up On Love". It's definately not one of his best albums but it still has a kind of "Stone City Band" feel to it....only without the hardcore jams. The flag was disappointing but i still dug a few songs off of it. Sweet and sexy, R u experienced and a tight ballad called slow and easy.
I haven't listened to that album in a long time but I do remember liking "Sweet And Sexy Thing" and "Silly Little Man". The album just lacks something. It just doesn't have that signature Stone City Band sound. . . [Edited 6/28/06 10:53am] Andy is a four letter word.

Rick's "I don't you. I don't need nobody!"
always reminded me of Jerome's turn as Tricky in UTCM: "I'm my own man... Just like... Libera-CHAY..."
