My prediction 4 the record industry.

I predict that we are LIVING the last days of the record industry as we have known it the last 25 years or so.
The internet, technology, attitudes and PAYOLA is going 2 CRASH the strangle hold that record companies have had since the recording industries inception.

I predict that cds, and even DVD’s may be going the way of the Edsel. In the future EVERYTHING will be downloaded and may you will be able 2 purchases DVD with video’s, interactive choices, and….oh yea MUSIC.

Greed has pushed the art 2 the point where people like Paris Hilton and J-Lo can release “hits’. It’s all a bit 2 much and I think MAJOR shifts on the way. Sites like MySpace are allowing real artist 2 connect 2 an audience with being PIMPED by the Industry.

Look out, change is GONNA come..... and it is already here.

I hope I can still buy cd's in the store. I don't want to download everything, printing out & cutting & stapling a booklet. I want to buy a finished product.

I'm old, but I like actual things, like books rather than just reading words on a computer screen.

Now, the system itself can change any number of ways and I'd be just fine with it!

But one of the changes coming is that the internet will be regulated and controlled just like other media, unfortunately.

So my prediction is that the more things change, the more they will stay the same, only they "won't build them like they used to."

When the WB and EMI are finally unite, there will be only 3 major record label.

And it also looks like P2P will still be standing ever after MySpace destory the industry!!!

DJ's I know dislike those digital turntables immensely.

I'm happy to report vinyl will never die.

Have Finess to send me a orgnote. I like to hear his take on these turntables.

BTW, would you used them if you were a DJ?

No.

And you don't even need Finess to tell you he wouldn't use it. Dude lives for vinyl.

This question was posed on the DJ Rico Mixshow forum a few months back and people were like, "Fuck that shit." lol

Vinyl just sounds so much warmer that CD, plus mixing Cd to Cd isn't the same, plus its harder to beat juggle, you can't flare on a digital mixer, you can't scratch as authentically, and you can't use a cd to fan yourself off in a battle or else you'll look queer! What kind of D.J. are you van damn!

lol ....I can imagine the vinyl purists saying this in unison!

TBF, Digital Turntables are perfect for rave, IMO.

But for hip-hop/rap, it needs more improvements.

Downloads will also go the way of the do-do. We will all have media content devices, we pay a subscription, and have access to every song on demand. record collections will be obsolete because everyone will have access to the exact same meta-collection.

I have a feeling you're right. If Comcast can get you to pay for cable tv and pay per view, why wont they get you to pay for music. Music is becoming just another part of what we do, when it used to be a huge part before the internet and cable tv, dvd's etc. I like satellite radio and itunes, I dont have time to try to find an old prince song on cd when I can just do a search on itunes and make a mix in about 1 minute. It's kinda cool, but I do miss making tapes too.

I'm not a full-time DJ (yet)!! But if I were, my set would be nothing but electro, freestyle, 1980's funk, breakbeats, hip-house, french house, and hip-hop/rap (mostly 1978-93 era).

And yes, I would use digital turntable AND a laptop computer (if necessary). I'm not afraid to embrace the future of music technology.

EDIT: I be carefully with the word "queer" if I were you. There are gay DJs (DJ Dan, DJ Irene) that are still using viryl just like the rest of the viryl purists!

I DJ sometimes, and next time you go to a club, if you see turntables AND a laptop or cd players, take a closer look. Alot of DJ's I've seen in smaller clubs will just let the laptop do the mixing and kind of spin the record to make it appear theyre mixing live. Or some of them just put a NYC DJ mix cd in and pretend to spin vinyl. Check it out, if you know anything about DJ'ing you can tell that theyre not really mixing live on the turntables. Its SAD!

Remember Q and his band, Uberzone?

I've seen Uberzone preform live at my very first rave a few years back. the stage setup was mostly a few synths, a small electronic drum kit and a laptop computer!!!

Without question, Uberzone brought down the house. They were slamming.

But I can also tell you that their software sequencer did most of work. And keep in mind, this was long before the release of Ableton Live auto sequencing software!

Replace the term "real artists" with "irritating amateurs who think they are professional level musicians and producers just because they happen to own a soundblaster" and you have a case there.

No, but seriously speaking. I'm just happy that the industry side of things are experiencing great financial difficulties. They're just getting what they deserve for underestimating their audience's intelligence. It HAS to come back at them. But no, I don't think the record manufacturing industry on the whole is going to fade out too soon.

It might just downsize to three labels and stay this way:

Universial
Sony BMG
Time Warner/EMI (?)
