Who remembers the early days of MTV?

I was just on YouTube watching Huey Lewis and The News' "Do You Believe In Love" video (from 1982) and suddenly I got all nostalgic for the early days of MTV.Hard to believe, but there was actually a time when MTV was all about music. They showed music videos 24 hours a day...there was no 'Real World',no stupid reality shows, just music, music and more music.I got hooked on MTV in the spring of '82,only a few months after it first appeared. It was so exciting back then! Who remembers those days? What are your memories? Can you name the original VJs pictured below? lol

I don't remember that far back - plus, we never had cable/satellite in our house; I was always amazed when I went round a mate's house and they had more than four channels omfg lol - but I do remember when The Real World started. nod

Who'd have thought it would all be about cribs, makeovers and reality shows now?? disbelief

I remember THAT era very well. I became a full-time Prince fan after watching 1999 & LRC.

And of course, when Michael made history with Thriller (still THE best music video of all time!).

when I first got MTV in the spring of 1982,these are some of the videos that were in heavy rotation...

"The Look Of Love" by ABC
"Vacation" by the Go-Gos
"Do You Believe In Love" by Huey Lewis and The News
"I Know What Boys Like" by The Waitresses
"My Kinda Lover" by Billy Squier
"867-5309/Jenny" by Tommy Tutone
"Who Can It Be Now" by Men at Work
"She's Tight" by Cheap Trick
"You Better Run" by Pat Benatar
"Workin' For The Weekend" by Loverboy
"Only The Lonely" by the Motels
"Goody Two Shoes" by Adam Ant
"Caught Up In You" by 38.Special

they were still a few months away from showing videos by Prince and Michael Jackson. They mainly concentrated on rock and New Wave.

Michael's videos really took everyone by surprise. He was the first artist to make expensive, outstanding videos that were well-choreographed.His videos were like mini-movies."Billie Jean","Beat It" and of course,"Thriller" belong in the video hall of fame.

Riki Rachtman was so annoying. lol I was a West Coast Julie Brown fan, myself. Adam Currie thought he was a rock star.

Wasn't Kari before any of those guys? The Bill Bellamy, Daisy Fuentes days (and especially that freak show Jesse Camp) is when I started losing interest in MTV.

Between the first and second generation of MTV VJ's, MTV created their own news division (MTV News). THAT show brought the debut of Kurt Loder (who I think still work for MTV today).

And later on: John Norris, Tabitha Soren, & Alison Stewart

I used to think John Norris was dreamy. smile Tabitha was cute. She was in the video for Fight for Your Right (To Party). Alison, I believe, works for MSNBC now.
