It all depends on how you define that word. Didn't stop Nevermind from getting that label. Yeah, once you sell 10 million + copies of an album, it isn't alternative in the true sense of the word. Of course, there are thousands of "popular" sounding records that sold almost nothing. Does that make them alternative?
