I, too, am on the lookout for women of color who play guitar... preferrably in the Nashville area...

What a coincidence.

She's on this DVD...

...Tension & Release (maybe just a single tune)

According to her website, there's a full performance DVD in the making.

redface

I was just thinking how rudely Adisa and I had turned FM's thread about her daughter's musical instruction into a Princified version of "A Night at the Roxbury."

Sorry, FM.

Hello my musical gods and goddesses. grouphug

So my 9-year-old daughter is a rock star. guitar So far only in her head, but she's been begging for guitar lessons for a year. She draws guitars, writes songs, and she and her two best friends have already come up with a band name ("Triple Threat" - my daughter on lead guitar, Mykala on bass guitar and Lynzie on drums biggrin).

We were watching Mary J. Blige do a GMA concert this morning (with an all-male backing band), and the wise old daughter of mine commented that there are plenty of singers that look like her, but she never sees women of color playing the guitar.

I'm already planning on getting her some CDs and pictures of India.Arie and Me'Shell, but do you darlings have any other suggestions? I want my baby to feel supported and like there are women who have done this before her. I haven't got the funds for a guitar or lessons yet, but I'm getting there.

Any suggestions on supporting her in learning music are welcome too. cool
