The Black Crowes will release "The Lost Crowes" in August, a two-disc set featuring previously unreleased material from the band's archives.

The set, due Aug. 29 from Rhino Records, includes tracks from two of the band's albums that were never officially released, 1993's "Tall" and 1997's "Band." The set is split into two CDs that attempt to reconstruct the original results of the two "lost" recording sessions.

The "Tall" CD was originally recorded in the fall of 1993 in a Los Angeles studio. The band decided not to release the material, and thereafter went to work on what would become the Black Crowes' third release, 1994's "Amorica." The Rhino re-release features 16 tracks from the "Tall" sessions, and ten tracks from the 1997 "Band" sessions.

The group has remixed the original recordings included on the set, which will hit stores the same day as the band's first DVD for Rhino, "Who Killed That Bird Out on Your Window Sill," a repackaging of a home video originally shot by the band in 1992.

The DVD will feature live performances, interviews, backstage and studio footage, videos from the group's first two albums, and "additional bonus footage," according to a press release.

Yes, the Brothers are doing more than talking, the Crowes have been back together for about a year now and have been touring their asses off!

I have issue with the above tracklist, but I'll leave it alone. Still buying it, for the better sound quality.

There are at least 3 songs that are not included on the "Tall" disc that should be. Ask around the BC Community about the songs "Exit", "Bewildered" and especially "Title Song". These are songs that were recorded at the beginning of the "Tall" album sessions and then abandoned. "Title Song", to me and a lot of other people, is probably the greatest thing the Crowes ever recorded...

That being said, I'll be buying this anyway. The Band sessions are already out there in DAT quality, but it'll be great to have clean and clear sounding copies of this Tall material. It's just a shame that they decided to ignore the three best songs from those sessions.
