It's not that simple. It's everywhere and it's keeping everything else out. When there is no good new music to entertain people, we have to bitch to entertain ourselves. Why? For the sheer hell of it. evillol

so you are saying that in present day there is NO good music??? falloff that has to be the biggest joke i've heard today!!
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

If there is good music it is sooooo far underground that you'd never find it. Also, I ain't got time to be looking. The dead asses need to liven their asses up so we can jam on the radio again.

some of you guys kill me, look at the threadstarter statement, some random guy is in his car listening to music, which is rap so he is uneducated and needs to go the library, so if you listen to rap, you are uneducated, does that make sense

I know what you mean but that's not always the case man. Age plays into it also. Most people in their late 40's and older don't like rap. They think that it's just some thug off the street talking to some music and using the N-Word a lot. It's more then that. There's an art to it.

...my feelings on rap are neither here nor there, but in response to the orginal post of this thread, I get sick and f'n tired of people blaring music in their cars..you know, if you're on the highway surrounded by other moving cars, thats one thing...but when you stop at a redlight and continue to bump that shit or cruising through a parking lot with it cranked wide open, you deserved to be called an idiot...first of all, its just stupid...second, its rude...I have children and it truly pisses me off when some dickwad cant be considerate enough to turn his lewd music down when kids are present...there is nothing like walking through a parking lot with your 6 year old son while some moron comes by playing "girl give me that pussy" at full volume...

No..We contribute to the continued stagnation of our people. The music that you listen to does not. In this world you have choices and it is up to YOU, not the music, to make the right choice. If a 4 minute rap song can change what I have taught my 4 year daughter in her 4 years on this earth, then I am the one to blame, not the music.....
[Edited 6/23/06 9:16am]

homeboy u bet yo a-- that it can influence the heck out of the choices your daughter or son makes after they hear negative rap over and over and over and over again.this is a record companies ploy to drive these negative images in our youths mind so they cant see the forrest 4 the trees, wake up son its a game going on, u better get hip and watch what radio and mtv is feeding your kids because some of it cant be digested.

Believe me....I do realize the images that are being displayed on TV. This is why I do not let her watch TV unsupervised. No way in the world am I going to let her watch TV or do anything unsupervised. I am not going to let these record companies raise my child. You are making it sound as though these companies are stronger that the parents. As though the parents have no power....If this is the case then, it is the parents who have relinquished that power.

rude is rude...ignorrant is ignorrant and that knows no color or genre...so, to answer your question, yes I do complain if its rock, rap, country or lawrence welk...its just stupid..my biggest gripe with the folks blasting rap is that the lyrics are easily understood for the most part...with rock it sometimes sounds like cheese grated cats screeching, so its more annoying than outright offensive...rolleyes

Yes rap is terrible, and not only because of the words they use in every song, but just because it sounds so bad! Most of these guys think they are above everyone else, but just...NO.

We got that fire in our old age because we grew up on good uptempo funk to keep us fiesty. Notice that we're sitting down in chairs instead of up dancing because the music these days is too damn slow to get us up. If it gets any slower, our asses are going to be too wide to fit in the chairs. lol

I wasn't talking about the driver, I was talking about the bad grammar promoted in the rap lyrics, which I feel dumbs down the whole culture, especially a young black culture, already destroyed by poverty and shitty schools. The pop culture just becomes another wall, around their hearts and minds.

Bill Cosby is wrong about a lot, but he has a point on this one thing, beyond all the hateful rheteric.

I REALLY DONT LIKE RAP ANYMORE... i cant stand it... everyone is tyring to be hip hop... i remeber 1997 when they wouldnt even realy play rap videos like that on MTV... you have to watch BET to see all the black videos.... anyways rap music is sampling like every song they can get their hands on... I JUST WISH SOMEONE COULD COME UP WITH A NEW GENRE OF MUSIC... SO THAT RAP CAN DIE OUT REALLY SOON... im tired of it...

so maybe you white people shouldn't buy it because most of yall don't know why hip hop was created and the reason behind it, so until you understand it don't judge it, because the musicianship argument yall throw makes me know yall don't know the reason hip hop was created for.

I don't buy it. I can't help it if these little brats these days don't have the good taste not to buy it.

I did buy it back in the day though because it was actual music and a lot of it was extremely funky. I was buying it in the days when it was only available on 12 Inches which was long before little Biff and Buffy ever heard of it. Rap songs in those days was actual funk only with rapping instead of singing. Since I'm a music lover, I could fully get into it. You could flip a 12 Inch like Newcleus' "Jam On It" over and play the instrumental and it was an actual funky original song. Play the instrumental of a rap song today and it will sound like a clock....just a slow beat going "tick...tock".

When rap became nothing but a slow ass beat with some "talking" on top of it, I said the hell with it. People say "listen to the message in it", well, I could give less than a damn about a message because I buy records for music not a story. If I want a story, then I'll watch "As The World Turns".

Also, many, I repeat....MANY black people hate shit hop also.

who cares, many white people hate rock music, the blacks who hate rap are what over 40yr old, and then you have the crossover negro who hate rap, just to appease massa, when i say hate that means never liked rap EVER, you cant hate something you loved before, you might dislike the way it is gone, but you don't hate it because if something catches your ear that is what you used to love, you would like it still if it cameback to what you loved about it.

Kid. You're rationalizing. There is a LOT of bullshit music out today. You can't make excuses for it or just reduce it down to individual opinion because many of us see right through it. MANY of us know what GREAT music is and when yo get to the point where you try to say a loop off a drum machine made by one dude with NO musical knowledge is equal to a band of well trained, well rehersed MUSICIANS with tons of musical knowledge, you only make yourself look uninformed. This is why I call the teens of today the hype generation. Many of you hold more credence to what someone SAYS is good and how much money its making rather than actual musical value. Its takes SKILL to make music well and many people already know this. What Kanye does and what Kashif does are two totally different things. They are both producers but Kashif is a REAL music producer. Kanye is a well-paid beat maker like Pharrell. A lot of the rap that's out is a thin 4 bar loop that a beginning year music student could make. That's not to say its not jammin'. I like bullshit sometimes too. No one's hating the fact that it exists but rather the fact that it saturates the market. Not all rap sucks but honestly, a lot of it does; so does most of the rock that's out too.
