falloff I thought the same thing. We can reasonably assume he was brilliant, but where are the original Beethoven LPs? smile

I don't know too much about piano players, but I know that some of those classical piano players, and jazz ones too, sometimes really amaze. Sometimes I wonder how a human being can do those things.

What about Mike Garson? I love everything he's done with Bowie.

Don't forget Ben Folds. I cannot forget nobody mentioned Rentato Neto. He plays his fucking ass off. why do you think Prince loves him? He comes close to outplaying him.

I'd have to disagree. Renato comes off as a consummate pianist, compared with Prince's tasteful skills. RN burns.

I completely agree Renato is a master of the keys and deserves much more recognition and respect than he gets.
Also Bernie Worrell.
Time is a trick....

I must of course confess that I don't know half of these guys by these pictures alone, but those shots are so damn great, that I want to learn all about their music. Thanks Harlepolis!

Don't turn down the opportunity to hear him with his Brazilian Jazz trio.

Burn is the word.

I always thought that "The Ballad of Dorothy Parker" on the "It Ain't Over" CD alone shows that Renato can do things on the keys that Prince can't. Not to put Prince down, though. He never played those clear, on-the-point solos, though.

Don't let anybody tell you different.
Renato Neto is bad MF on keys.

Has anyone mentioned little Richard yet? Again, he may not top the list of most technically accomplished players but I'll still attest to this day that despite his seldom use of prominent electric guitar and how much more refined or loud or distorted rock n roll has gotten over the years, that Little Richard rocks as well and as intensely as just about anybody who came afterwards and does it just by bangin on the ol' 88.

Edit: Looks like RipHer2Shreds listed him

Cannot rave enough about Brad Mehldau. Caught him at Wolfe Trap, a few years ago. When he was on, he was a beast.

Actually you don't have to be a great piano player to write great piano music! biggrin But Beethoven was a virtuoso on the piano... I'm sure there are plenty of historical accounts that show this.
