My introduction was through his collaboration with David Sylvian ~ Forbidden Colours remains my favourite. Chasm is an amazing piece of art. Layered, haunting and thought provoking. There was a fabulous thread about him some time ago ~ worth seeking out if you've time. For some reason I'm thinking it was around February but could be way off that date. My introduction to him was through Wings of Honneamise: Royal Space Force. Awesome movie, awesome soundtrack, remains my favorite work of his. [Edited 6/28/06 23:59pm] I'm afraid of Americans. I'm afraid of the world.

IMO Ryuichi Sakamoto is truly one of the greatest contemporary artist.
Totally unpredictable... sometimes acoustic, sometimes electronic, sometimes classical... and ever classy!! I've seen recently one of his concert with Alva Noto, and I have to say it was a great musical trip. I can't say what's my favourite record of his (too many, really...), but at this moment I'm in love with both "Bricolage" (a remixed version of Chasm) and the wonderful soundtrack to the movie "Shining Boy & Little Randy"

I think he's a genius in his own right. Certainly an innovator of music in general. Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence is my favorite. Christian Zombie Vampires
