Jamie Cullum

Anybody here a Jamie Cullum fan. I got to see him last night at the Paramount Theater in Oakland, California. God, what a show. That boy can play the piano like nobody's business. He was jazzy, soulful and funky.

I had never even heard of him before. My good friend asked me if I wanted to go see him. I agreed and was not dissapointed at all. His horn section was awesome, his drummer, incredible. His whole band was awesome.

Check him out, if you can.

I'm fond of All At Sea. A while back, it was playing from a neighbors car and crept into one of my dreams. Still not sure if that's why I like it so much or if I'd be as fond of it otherwise. I wasn't crazy about some of his standards but there were other tracks I did like...can't remember them now.

He's complete and utter fucking anodyne shit - James Blunt with a piano. A smartass precocious wanker. Sorry. Only 14 year old girls like him in England.

Well glad I'm not in England then.

I really dont mind his music at all, though personally I don't consider it jazz to begin with.

I think his last cd is better than his first.

But for some reason he gets a lot of hate round here.

The jazz moniker is probably a remnant from his first cd of standards (which I STILL love) "Twentysomething".

Jamie Cullum is a wonderful performer. I have heard of his enfant terrible tendencies when he's at home in England, but apparently he gets his s**t together when he's on the road, because any time I've seen him in concert he's been nothing less than awesome. LOVE HIM razz .

For the younger audience that's interested in jazz, or for an open minded older audience that's interested in discovering younger players out there, he's perfect.

He's like the darker, edgy, alter-ego counterpart to New York's Peter Cinciotti (or satanic spawn child of Harry Connick Jr.): unkempt hair, wrinkled sportscoat (if he's even wearing one), and dirty little Converse sneakers cool

I have to agree, I saw him at the V Festival and really can't understand what the whole hype is about.. I 'll admit he's talented. He's also annoying and a crap dancer. Another to go on the Katie Melua/Joss Stone pile I think..

Took the words right out of my mouth. Fortunately, his career seems to be on the slide. Didn't he used to sing on a cruise ship?

Leave Joss Stone alone. Her recorded output is shit, but she's a real talent and a breath of fresh air amidst all the cynical posers populating the industry at present. Some day she might even make a decent album. She's still only 18.

Glad to have amused you so, my dear, but go back and re-read the entire sentence. The reference is framed in the context of how he compares to Cincotti as an overall package.

You're right, sweetie cool. In my case at least, I couldn't give a hoot about an orgers' analysis of my musical tastes, rather than not wanting a quote from me to be taken & twisted out of context...I get all prickly about stuff like that lol

Ok - Jamie Cullum is the sort of guy you used to find harmlessly plunking away at standards on a piano in a distant corner of an overpriced pizza parlour. Then, recently, the music industry decided that bland was the way to go (see James Cunt - sorry, Blunt - i.e: not sharp), so they hyped the pizza parlour piano plunker. Unfortunately, they also got him to sing, and he really can't. Now, I'm not doubting his technical mastery of the piano, but Elton John he ain't. And then there's his voice - so utterly bland and devoid of character and emotion it sounds like software. In England he appeals to 14 year old girls and half-deaf grandmothers. In fact, his record company deliberately marketed his new album to girl schools. No kidding.

And yes, he is also a complete and fucking twat. Bring back National Service!!!!

I think she is talented, but she comes across as really up herself and I can't really understand why.. It's annoying as people like Amy Winehouse, who have staggering talent and attitude to match are unheard of and Joss Stone is swanning around like the queen of England. I just wish she would bring out something good you know? I knew good music when I was 18, I just don't think her attitude and her music match.

Just go home and crank "dark and edgy" Jamie C up to ear-splitting volume and relieve yourself by doing that chimp on crack dance he likes to do between boisterous encores of "Everlasting Love".
