I can't wait to hear this track! JD is hit and miss, but you know he has tried everything in his power to get a hit for her! so I'm hoping it's a good one, I love janet slow jams. I have someone say it sounds like "I want you" that was a classic.

I have heard the track, it's nice and probably get airplay, but I don't know, it sounds like "Like you" by Bow Wow feat at least there is 3 months before the album drops so they can push another track. I like it much better than "Just a lil while". The bridge sounds lazy and a after thought.
maybe it'll grow on me, I hope it is a hit, it certainly as good as any other track on heavy rotation at the moment. Just not hot enough. it would have been a good second single or album track.

The same thing I said in other thread (what happened to it anyway?). It also sounds like the new 3LW song. I also mentioned that it sounded like a filler or a third or fourth single. It's cute but not enough groove for a debut sorta like TTWLG.

See maybe this is why i'm not on the same level as everyone here...i actually enjoyed "Just a little while." And "All Nite" was hot. That should have been a big hit for her.

I liked DamitaJo, All nite was hot, but this track is just a bit on the boring, no hook or catchy melody, I don't see it been a hit in Europe, thats for sure, hell I don't see it been a hit outside the US. Hopefully the second single is hot.

I have to say DeJa vu by Beyonce is going to be the big hit by default, It was meant to be all Janet, she had been working on this release for 2 years, Beyonce did her whole labum in 3 weeks, and still come out with something hotter, but I'm not going to judge Janet's whole album off one track, the first track was always going to be tailored made for radio, also "Call on me" could be a huge hit, I'm always suprised what tracks became hits (Christina Aguilera debuted at #19 ?!). also Ciara has new album coming out September, her new track is meant to be hot too.

p.s If anyone else released this track you all would hate it, it wouldn't even get a mention on here, in fact I could see a few hate threads, The Nelly Factor and JDs ab libs, I see even Janet couldn't stop him.

I'm shocked becuase I haven't heard Beyonce's new one (unless I don't recognize it as Beyonce...I'm sure I would though) but have heard Janet's new one on Sirius Hot Jamz station, which surprised me but they do play all the hit R&b/hip-hop stuff (I don't listen to it often but I hear the new Outkast on there all the time). It's funny because I can't stand the heavy hip-hop Top 40 radio here but it works on the Sirius station. They have a hits station which is very well rounded (although I don't love it....and nearly everytime I flip to it...Shakira "Hips Don't Lie". Not sure if Janet's new one will be a hit but I'm shocked it wasn't poped up under the Hits station yet. I guess it's growing on me but there is too much Nelly (not enough Janet, of course) and the ad libs hurt it's crediblity!

I think it will be a big hit for the reasons you stated. Her second single is going to be uptempo, but this is intended as a reintroduction for radio. I know you liked I Want You quite a bit, and I'm sure there are going to be a few tracks in the same vein on the album. Call On Me is more So So Def than it is Janet, but that's the strategy for a guaranteed hit. I think her vocals are much more involved here than they were on the majority of Damita Jo.

I continued to listen to it, and now i'm appreciating it more for what it is. Janet's voice is lovely, the production is slick, but i think it's Nelly that's bothering me.
I know the song is like a conversation between Janet and Nelly, but i'm still confident that Janet could have held this one on her own.

But for commercial purposes, it was a good plan to have 2 superpowers go at it for the lead single.

It's growing on me now.

I think it's a grower, too. The production is very pretty, but as a slow track is in stark contrast to what's on the radio right now. Radio seems to be really picking up on it.

This is GREAT for Janet!!!Just right for radio .
It's a safe start to work up to the CD release.Bee and Xtina are coming out
heavy hitting and this is sooo...different ,soft and sweet so Janet.
To my Shock I LUV Nelly on this!! and I am NOT a Nelly Fan.
Next single should be Up-Tempo.

Yes, safe move commercially speaking. I'm sure radio will eat it up for the time being.

But IMO, it's a disappointing move artistically.

There's just nothing here that would motivate one to go out and buy the new Janet CD if it came out next week. Isn't that what a lead single is supposed to do? Get everyone excited for the release date?

It's sooo generic and that's terribly disappointing considering Janet has produced some of the most sweetest R&B summer jams ever ("That's The Way Love Goes", "And On And On", "I Want You", etc.)

I'm not counting her out yet (I never would) but so far, she hasn't stepped up to the plate with something worth offering.

Let's not even get into the fact that she didn't even bother to co-produce or co-write the track. Her artistic stamp is no where to be found on this track. I can't imagine Mariah, Michael, or Madonna would do such a thing. It shows a complete lack of faith in one own capabilities.

Not really. Way better than most of the tracks on Damita Jo.

That's the second single. First single purpose is to get her back on the radio. They are following an It's Like That/We Belong Together pattern.

No, it doesn't. She was in Minneapolis working with Jimmy & Terry when Nelly & JD came up with the idea for the track. Like Mariah, Michael and Madonna, the majority of her tracks are cowritten and coproduced by her. Just not this one. If the pattern changes, then maybe you'll be on to something.

Keep in mind people that it's still MORE THAN THREE MONTHS before the LP comes out. A LOT can happen in 3 months. I for one would like the album sooner than later and I think with this destined to be a radio SMASH that she should bump it up and get out there before Xtina, Beyonce, Ciara, etc...but I doubt it.
