Why is she so sucessfull?

She did all those movies too. Musically, not for me. Iam not against sentimental, sap driven songs, but, i prefer male vocals when it comes to that sorta thing. Must be the lonely housewife in me.

Because there was a time when people actually bought records from people that could sing. She wasn't always crazy, but she sure got there fast once she decided she wanted to be a movie star.

She was a true original in her day. She blew people away with her voice and vocal stylings. If you ever get a chance to hear her early material such as 'Sleeping Bee'....you can see how she would have made jaws drop. No one sounded like her...and she was always on the quirky, awkward, side and I think many responded to that...sorta the 'People's Diva'...people could relate to her..she didnt seem as assertive as she is now. She put out an album every year and starred on Broadway and then onto film..just look at all the material she put out each decade...especially the 60's and 70's....she was never out of the public's sight for long.

She doesn't need dramatics to fill a space. Even Mariah, Whitney, Celine, etc, confirmed belters have a quality of 'strainin'. Streisand opens her mouth and there it is. She knows it, too.

She just announced a tour and the "good seats" are $700

Madonna's $350 tickets seem like a bargain,by comparison

For old times sake I got the four cd box Just For The Record for two reasons; because I wanted a nice retrospective, but the reason I actually got this was the fact it features an entire nightclub performance (The Bonsoir) and it is just a blast; the voice, the humour, that laugh.

My other guilty pleasure is The Way We Were...

Even though many people will just label her camp, this is one classy lady with loads of passion and that's another draw.

I think it`s much about her image, the nose and the scary nails, the "Hello, gorgeous" line...

If you don`t like her love songs, check out her live medley of "Sweet inspiration/Where you lead",
it`s nothing like the songs that make people dislike her...

Like all great voices, she has a very beautiful 'soft' vocal and seems to be able to blow the roof off the building in the next phrase. She is such a 'loaded' icon but if you can be bothered to strip all that away and listen to her voice, she's still very special.

Her charisma, I guess.

I think she embodies showwomanship to the extreme IMO.

Not too fond of her as a "musician" but she's most def a top-notch entertainer with a unique personality. Her broadway musicals and movies are to go home for.
