that said, once again, PETA fucks it all up. what would i have done? i would have had an intelligent conversation with beyonce and her family about my concerns, and i would have politely let her know that i spent $XXX to win this auction for the purpose of having this conversation. no cameras. no "ambush". no publicity stunt. when PETA pulls these stunts, they polarize people. that's not what's going to improve animal welfare (notice i said WELFARE, not RIGHTS). when PETA gets it through their thick, extremist, ridiculous skulls that advocating for people to do just a LITTLE to live a cruelty-free life leads to a lot more improvement than DEMANDING that everyone live 1,000% by their standards, THEN maybe they'll make a difference. i say screw PETA. and i'm an 18-year vegetarian. It's only natural. I mean we're all living now off the past conflicts and death of other people and animals because of our tastes, ambitions, and docile acceptance of circumstance/conformity. I mean we're all living now off the past conflicts and death of other people and animals because of our tastes, ambitions, and docile acceptance of circumstance/conformity. okay, sure, but i really believe to my core that the hallmark of compassion is understanding. and if an animal rights/welfare advocate can convey an UNDERSTANDING of why the normal average joe buys leather shoes and eats meat for dinner, i believe that's the first step in creating actual change. leather shoes are easier to find - and cheaper - than pleather shoes. plus, they don't wear out as quickly. it's easier to swing by mickey d's and buy some burgers for dinner than it is to throw together a tofu scramble (not to mention figuring out how to make it taste good). the lifestyle PETA wants everyone to adopt isn't an easy or quick transition. the change they (and, okay, *i*) would like to see is going to have to be gradual, and it's not going to happen by exposing people as villains. even if PETA's aim is completely genuine, i think they're going about it completely the wrong way and doing more harm than good.

I gave up pork, beef, lamb after I drove by a slaughterhouse one night and smelled a horrible smell, and, on another day, I had this intense realization that the personalities, behaviors, and emotions of most mammals seem very human like (good and bad!), so I had to draw a line for myself. I find the idea of cannibalism horrifying, and then I anthropomorphize animals... so... Plus, one year, I went crazy with grilling steaks, and my cholesterol went up in direct correlation! the people use scare tactics to get their point across. i bet poor beyonce will be so terrified that if she wears fur or eats meat again some crazy freaky peta fool will jump out from nowhere and attack her again.
i've noticed that they seem to only go after women. have they ever gone after snoop, 50 or any of these other rappers who wear more fur than these women do?

Can you honestly picture anyone walking up to Slim Thug, Rick Ross, Suge Knight or even Snoop and tossing paint on their fur coat? Ooh, I would love to see that as well as the ass whoopings and gun battle that would ensue afterwards. Snoop would say "I stopped wearing fur. Now I only wear PETAskin coats. Yep, that's right. Coats made from the skins of PETA members." They didn't come at Beyonce as agressively as they have some celebs. They are learning, I guess. I heard this guy is next on the list:

Im not so mad at PETA doing this. At least they didnt splash her with anything. They were talking quietly and under controlled. I agree sometimes they can be brash but I respect their mission. What was up with Beyonce clamming up like that? I never hear or see her speaking up for herself, she always turns into this shell of defensiveness. Thats sad. She's OLDER that 25, (I know this 4 sure) acting like that? &

I can imagine why. It's not really about her age - maybe she's a really gentle person on the inside & doesn't really know what to do when she feels like she's being attacked. She's been pretty adored by people in general for much of her life now & I can see why she would just withdraw instead of going jugular on a supposed "fan"

Someone should throw a bunch of rib bones at those skinny fascists of PETA. My boo is a veg head, but PETA make me sick. They make vegetarians look like terrorists. I myself am as left as they get, but damn PETA, grow the fuck up. Anyway, the War in Iraq is more important than some animal being abused. Call me cold hearted, but priorities are just that. I was thinking the same. It's actually a fairly polite conversation. Now, secretly taping her and such was a bit over the edge. But the rest of it wasn't really all that attacking. |
