Clean Versions Have any of you ever bought the clean version of a cd before? I bought the dirty version of the new Busta Rhymes but I wish I would have bought the clean one instead. Honestly i'm not a prude when it comes to swearing as I swear myself but my god every word is filthy. I can't be arsed to buy another one (clean) but in future I may start doing this with certain artists.

What kind of an "artist" would need to put out clean versions of their works? Just to sell a few more copies to a different target group? I need to inform Roger Karmanik about this.

Who is Roger Karmanik?? Anyway, I can see your point but on another hand if you don't want to hear all that filthy language it's nice to have the option to hear a clean version. especially for kids.

I remember a woman in one of my college classes who went off on a long ass rant about how she was going to march off to Target and throw a fit because they sold her the clean version of "I wanted Sexy Mother Fucker, not Sexy Mother Awww-uuuahh!"

Kids who are so young that they shouldn't hear expletives shouldn't be listening to that kind of music anyway. They're not missing anything.

I'm not a prude, either, but Busta is always ridiculous. He ruins every song with his flow and loudness and crassness that makes me want to take a shower. He has gotten some cool grooves before and just made them unlistenable. He is the only artist I really feel this way about. He doesn't say much of anything I don't think, either. It may just be that I'm so turned off by his one note shtick. Why buy the clean version, when you can just listen to it on the radio on music videos for free.
I would never buy a clean version of an album. It takes all the fire out of the music. Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

I don't really like clean versions because I'm not into censoring the original...but there's an exception when the clean version makes me laugh. And I seriously would pay money for a clean version of an album if I thought it was funny, like with "Sexy M.F." I guess it's a little odd, but I'm like that, so... HE'S COMING AGAIN

I used to be into The 2 Live Crew in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Their music wasn't played on the radio so I basically bought their new album when I saw it in the record store.
I happened to be in the mall one day and stopped in a Camelot Record Store. In there, I saw a new 2 Live Crew album called "Clean As They Wanna Be". I brought it to the counter and was talking to the clerk as I was getting ready to buy it. I told her that "clean" certainly did not fit The 2 Live Crew's description in the past and the album title must be some sort of joke on their part. She put her hand on her hip and said with severe attitude...."There is a filthy version out and we will never carry it here". I said "This one's not dirty? Well, you can just void my sale and I will take my ass somewhere that sells the dirty version." Andy is a four letter word.

I can't stand loads of swearing in music. It is so lazy! Why don't these rappers think of some real lyrics? I just don't buy/listen to songs I think are vulgar.
Saying that.. I did download the clean version of 50cent's 'hustlers ambition' cause i just love that groove.

No. But then again I don't listen to overtly explicit (c)rap... Speaking of Busta I prefer the clean version of I Love My B*tch much more than the explicit version. I can definitely deal with I love my lady Yup, yup I love my chic Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

Queen Latifah's greatest hits has the clean version of her songs. Makes for lame listening and defeats the purpose of at least one song. In U.N.I.T.Y., you get, "Ya gotta let 'em know...you ain't a _____ or a _____."

I have a few clean versions. Kanyes "College Dropout" and Nas' "Illmatic" come to mind. Theyr cool to listen to when I have my children in the car, and we need some hip hop energy. The drawback is when the CD's are edited with the the offending word played backwards instead of just being edited out, or like the Wu used to do; with the curses being replaces by slapps or some other sound(that was pretty cool). Kind of like the radio edit to Sexy MF: "NOw move that big sassasa round this way..." That type of clean version really takes away from the song, and highlights what presumably is being masked.
