I'm not looking to be an aplologist for Jay-Z, but he has a point here. As a business owner, isn't the idea of running a business is to get as much profit as possible for your goods and services? Here's this Frederic Rouzaud guy, whose company has probably made a huge fortune over the last few years with Cristal, thanks to the hip-hop world, yet he comes out and badmouths his own customers. (Granted he's French, and the French people seem to do this regularly.) Why would any businessman with half a brain do this to his own customers? That's like killing the golden goose. What is this guy going to do if Oprah suddenly decides to listen to the hip-hop community and encourages the rest of the world to boycott their products? He should have kept his mouth shut and just taken all that cash.

Oh yeah, Rouzaud is a dumbfuck, too! Nwo granted I doubt he will see a dip in his profits over this but even still, he's stupid to risk ANY drop off in sales over something he really can't control in the first damn place.

Anyone who's intimately familiar with the world of wine and champagne knows that Cristal has had its own core audience since it was created for Tsar Alexander for over 125 years now . They have made, and will continue to make money without the endorsement of the rap industry via their traditional (and less vocal) demographic of wine scholars, Russian, and French aristocracy

Roederer creates for the serious connoiseur who understands and appreciates the mastering time, riddling, and dosage liqueur of a champagne, or the fact that great care is taken to wrap its' clear bottle in yellow cellophane as to protect your tasting experience from the rays of daylight...it can't possibly be pleasing to one of the landmark companies in the history of Cuveé to see something which is so painstakingly prepared to the strictest méthode champagne requirements be poured over the boobies and buttocks' of naked women for today's Mtv generation lol

...but hey, of couse I would say this since I'm a "foodie" lol lol lol

Well I would imagine that the wine scholars, Russian & French aristocracy and 'serious connoiseurs' hardly pay attention to the fact that Cristal is being poured over the boobies and buttocks of naked women in rap videos, so why should Roederer care?

Sure it's his but as he stated, it's a public product. He can't control the fact that it's being poured over the boobies and buttock of naked women any more than he can control the weather. Cristal is a well established brand. The core demographic is not likely to stop drinking it because of what's happening in a few rap videos overseas.

I can see your point there, but people have been aspiring for the luxuries of the good life since the beginning of man. And you're right about how some of these hip-hop cats who pour Cristal over a bunch of video hoes like it's a bunch of Kool-Aid. If you're going to splash some bubbly over some bubbly asses, use the cheap stuff (Cook's, Totts, Martini & Rossi Asti Spumante, two-buck Chuck).

That reminds me a couple of years ago of a co-worker who had a daughter whose friends wanted to go to the liquor store to get a bottle of Courvosier. She asked her if she even knew what Courvosier was, and she said that it was in that Busta Rhymes/P Diddy video. rolleyes I believe at the same time, McDonalds actually offered money to some rappers to pitch their burgers in their rhymes. What's really sad about all of this is how pervasive this marketing is to the audience. While I love a good champagne like most other people, I don't need to get Cristal or Dom Perignon every weekend. In fact, there are a lot of sparkling wines which cost a quarter of the amount of Dom and Cristal and taste just as good if not better. Moet & Chandon White Star and Verve Clicqot Yellow Label would do just fine for most people.

Ultimately though, it's about wanting something expensive because you appreciate its merits vs. showing status and trying to impress people. If I buy expensive furniture and gagdetry, I want it because I know it will last me a long time, and I don't really care what other people think of it.

Man, I promise
I'm so self concious
That's why you always see me with atleast one of my watches
Rollie's and Pasha's done drove me crazy
I can't even pronounce nothing, pass that versace!
Then I spent 400 bucks on this
Just to be like nigga you ain't up on this!
And I can't even go to the grocery store
Without some one's that's clean and a shirt with a team
It seems we livin the American dream
But the people highest up got the lowest self esteem
The prettiest people do the ugliest things
For the road to riches and diamond rings
We shine because they hate us
Floss cause they degrade us
We tryna buy back our 40 acres
And for that paper, look how low we a stoop
Even if you in a Benz
You still a nigga in a coupe

I'm glad dude said something - if it takes a comment like that to wake mf's up & have them THINK about what they're so feverishly promoting (as if THEY'RE getting paid for it) then it's a good thing.

Of course he could have smiled & acted all happy to have the additional exposure Hip Hop has brought but let's not be foolish - the Hip Hop artists picked this shit up somewhere & there's always been (& will continue to be) plenty of wealthy people still buying it long after the one hit Hip Hop wonders have come & gone.

It's like when Oprah had Liz Claiborne on years & years ago - Oprah was all happy wearing a Liz fit & Liz told her straight up (from what I remember), "I never intended for my clothes to be worn by Black people." So Oprah took the suit off lol I guess it's easy to assume that every business person just wants business no matter who it's from but that ain't the case. Wakey wakey muthafuckas neutral

Oh, and 728Huey - they're staring to pump Veuve-Clicqout in songs too. disbelief If it's something you can BUY rappers are already rapping about it falloff

But i think the point is that its a fucking drink, Im not excusing the statement, though you have to look at the whole picture rather than a soundbyte. But the fact that this was the FRONT PAGE NEWS today is sad, it shows what our morals as people are, it shows HOW dumb we as americans are, no wonder other countries look at us like the joke we are.

I gotta agree, though there are some SEXY ladies, JAYZ doesnt seem to mind the image of Cristal being poured all over some almost naked chick, or the constant "look what i got" image that he displays, that are the reason that we end up with SHIT like "pimp my ride" and "Cribs" and other great MTV shows where Parents pimp out their kids.
