Battle Of The Super-Campy Disco Movies...

xanadu vs. can't stop the music

before yesterday i would've said that xanadu is the campiest...but then i found a copy of can't stop the music at the library and checked it out, since i'd never seen the movie before. my reaction to it was like:

before the movie: hmm
after the movie: neutral...eek...lol...omfg...nuts...falloff

my camp-o-meter went through the roof during the entire movie, and it still hasn't come back down. can't stop the music is so bad, it's good--my favorite performances in the movie were "i love you to death" and "milk shake" (no relation to that gawd-awful kelis crap!).

if you've seen both movies, what's your pick as the campiest between the two?

Mine:
"Can't Stop the Music"

Why????
The surprise "cameo" appearances... and cheesey classic music... and the horrible acting.... the implausible plot.....

(Oh wait. I think I just described "Xanadu.")

evillol and yeah, the plot for can't stop... was just TOO simplistic. i was sitting there like, "oh gawd, this shit plays like an episode of the brady bunch!" i was almost expecting alice to pop up in samantha's apartment with a plate of cookies for everyone or something like that.

and it kept cracking me up when they were all like "omg, the village people are gonna be the sound of the '80s!!!" they put the first nail in their own coffin with all that. it was insane--by the time the movie came out in 1980, disco was pretty much dead by then.

xanadu is like lisa frank trapper keeper notebook campy.

can't stop the music is like castro street garage sale campy.

i can't compare them. they're in two separate campy camps.

but if you ask which i prefer, well...you know the answer to that already. giggle

I've never seen Xanadu. boxed

But I won a video of Can't Stop the Music at a white elephant party years ago, and I couldn't even make it through to the end. disbelief And I LOVE camp. But it was just SO bad.

I pick Xanadu even though I haven't even seen it. lol

There was some great cheese from the late 1970s. Van Nuys Blvd was another, teen movies with actors in their 30's struttin their stuff to disco, its remarkable.

I know! nod It would be fun. Two summers ago a friend of mine had a Campy Elvis Movie/B-B-Q Night at her house. We could do something similar with disco movies or something. And throw a Russ Meyer film in there, and we're set. lol

joey ramone was fugtacular, true, but i still think he was HOTT in performance footage. i can see someone having a crush on him, weird as that sounds. i love that movie cuz my girl mary woronov was in it as the evil principal. the first time i saw this movie on HBO, way back when i was a kiddo, i wanted to BE mary woronov...of course, i thought she, tim curry and freddie mercury were all the same person back then. lol
