Battle Of The Super-Campy Disco Movies...
xanadu vs. can't stop the music before yesterday i would've said that xanadu is the campiest...but then i found a copy of can't stop the music at the library and checked it out, since i'd never seen the movie before. my reaction to it was like: before the movie: after the movie: my camp-o-meter went through the roof during the entire movie, and it still hasn't come back down. can't stop the music is so bad, it's good--my favorite performances in the movie were "i love you to death" and "milk shake" (no relation to that gawd-awful kelis crap!). if you've seen both movies, what's your pick as the campiest between the two? "Can't Stop the Music" Why???? The surprise "cameo" appearances... and cheesey classic music... and the horrible acting.... the implausible plot..... (Oh wait. I think I just described "Xanadu.")

xanadu is like lisa frank trapper keeper notebook campy.
can't stop the music is like castro street garage sale campy. i can't compare them. they're in two separate campy camps. but if you ask which i prefer, well...you know the answer to that already.

I've never seen Xanadu. But I won a video of Can't Stop the Music at a white elephant party years ago, and I couldn't even make it through to the end. I pick Xanadu even though I haven't even seen it. "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven

There was some great cheese from the late 1970s. Van Nuys Blvd was another, teen movies with actors in their 30's struttin their stuff to disco, its remarkable.

[rock n'roll high school was here] [Edited 6/15/06 11:43am] joey ramone was fugtacular, true, but i still think he was HOTT in performance footage. i can see someone having a crush on him, weird as that sounds. i love that movie cuz my girl mary woronov was in it as the evil principal. the first time i saw this movie on HBO, way back when i was a kiddo, i wanted to BE mary woronov...of course, i thought she, tim curry and freddie mercury were all the same person back then.
