There is an unreleased Rick James album from 1989.It is called 'Kickin'.It leaked a few years ago,but I think they should give it an official release. There's also the last album he recorded before his death. It was supposed to be released by now,but I don't know what happened.

Yeah, Friendly Fire was produced by Trevor Horn and I heard somewhere that W&L stopped it since it was taking so long and they felt he zapped any kind of soul the album might have had. However, I have a heard a few tracks from it...including Guise of Love, Digging to China, and Madmen Swim Upstream which are all quality tracks and as good as anything on Eroica or Girl Bros. Wasn't Big Bowl of Cherries supposed to be on it too? Other W&L fans here on the Org may have to back me up on that one...

I don't know what the tracklist was and I've never heard any of the tracks from these sessions. I've always wondered what they sound like though because I'm a big fan of both parties. I guess I should start "digging". wink

I'd love to hear this too, since this was from around the same time that Trevor, Wendy and Lisa worked on the original Seal album, which is one of my favorites. I wonder if Seal appears on backing vocals, as on the released track The Closing Of The Year, from the Toys soundtrack.

Is that the one produced by Trevor Horn?
I don't think anyone has mentioned
The Who "Lifehouse Project", which become the "Who's Next" album. That's pretty legendary for sure.
I was also gonna say Funkadelic's "By Way of the Drum".

I have the 12" of this song!

Nobody's mentioned the THREE albums that the Black Crowes recorded in the mid 90s that have never been released.

Sweet Pickle Salad: only five songs from the sessions have been leaked, with the band's blessing too. This is a legendary session that included members of Jellyfish and Lenny Kravitz's tourband. Talk about "songs a year long.." these are some real EPICS and are worth tracking down. My favorite is "Limits".

The Band: Full album from '97 or so. Not much is known about this one, but it's a solid album with songs like "my heart's killing me", "never forget this song" and "if it ever stops raining".

And of course...

"Tall". This would have been the Crowes' SOTT if it had been released. A monster double album, with songs like "bitter bitter you", "Exit" "thunderstorm 6:54 pm" and of course the CLASSIC "Title Song" which I will put up against anything they ever officially released. A live version of "title song" is on their live album but it's a sloppy, poor version. The studio version SMOKES.

all of these albums are readily available on your favorite P2P in GREAT quality - if you're a fan of the Crowes, go find 'em. You won't regret it.

The Black Crowes (tickets | music)--currently preparing for a major summer tour that gets underway June 10--will release "The Lost Crowes" in August, a two-disc set featuring previously unreleased material from the band's archives.

The set, due Aug. 29 from Rhino Records, includes tracks from two of the band's albums that were never officially released, 1993's "Tall" and 1997's "Band." The set is split into two CDs that attempt to reconstruct the original results of the two "lost" recording sessions.

The "Tall" CD was originally recorded in the fall of 1993 in a Los Angeles studio. The band decided not to release the material, and thereafter went to work on what would become the Black Crowes' third release, 1994's "Amorica." The Rhino re-release features 16 tracks from the "Tall" sessions, and ten tracks from the 1997 "Band" sessions.

The group has remixed the original recordings included on the set, which will hit stores the same day as the band's first DVD for Rhino, "Who Killed That Bird Out on Your Window Sill," a repackaging of a home video originally shot by the band in 1992.

The DVD will feature live performances, interviews, backstage and studio footage, videos from the group's first two albums, and "additional bonus footage," according to a press release.

The Crowes are currently preparing to set out on a nine-week summer tour. Robert Randolph (tickets | music) & The Family Band and Drive-By Truckers (tickets | music) will provide opening support during the outing.

Oh. My. Fucking. GOD! This is like 'the black album' finally getting released, but for Crowes fans. And that DVD too? Oh hell yeah the Goddess is smiling on us this year.
Keep your headphones on.

We all know about the Black Album and the Beach Boys' album Smile - what other legendary unreleased albums are there (whether they have since been released in some way or not)?

The original "Get Back" by The Beatles.
