Harry Connick Jr. "Star Turtle"

Easily one of my favorite records of the 90's. This is when Harry showed off all his Musical abilities, his piano playing was top notch on this record, this record was a total 360 from the "big band stuff" , and was a total "funk new orleans record". At the time critics blasted Harry for doing it, they said he was showing off, his ego was talkin, which always pisses me off, because these are the same critics that give Good Charolette 5 stars.
But this CD clearly showed me that Harry is one of the best musicians out there, his piano playing is top notch and people hardly know this but his Bass Playing is amazing, he would give Prince a run for his money on Funk/Bass. Many of the tracks on this CD Harry plays all the instruments, piano, bass, guitar and Drums.

Icicle

I haven`t heard the album, but yes, i`ve read reviews, and they weren`t very impressive.
It sounds like it`s worth a listen though, i`m tired of the slooooow songs...

Back to back, HC's "She" and "Star Turtles" are as consistent, entertaining and funky as anything Prince put out in the same period.

Plus, they're funny and better-written.

I would have to agree, though critics wrote Harry off by doing albums like this, what the hell do critics know. Looking forward to Harry stepping back into that "mood" again

I'm hoping his Katrina experience and touring with Branford will spark such a "mood."

Still, if he decides to not retread the funk-rock path, he still will have left us with two really solid albums in that vein.
